I have opened a funding for needed medical care for my wife. Heidi has lived with Lupus for years, but now her heart is failing. Her latest tests show a Mean Pulmonary Artery Pressure of 90 mmHg— Normal is (11-16) a level so high that her heart is physically struggling to pump blood. Because of this, she cannot lie flat to sleep, she is constantly gasping for air, and her body is swollen with fluid and using oxygen throughout the day. We thought initially it was just the lupus. Watching the person I love struggle for every breath is the hardest thing I have ever done. She has also reached a state of diuretic resistance to both her water pills causing further issues.
"The situation is even more critical than it looks on the surface. Heidi’s recent blood work shows her body is under immense physical stress. Her Lymphocyte count is dangerously low at 0.26 (Lymphopenia), a known marker in heart failure that indicates her immune system is struggling to keep up with the strain on her heart and lungs. Additionally, her CRP levels are elevated at 4.20, confirming that there is active, systemic inflammation—likely a Lupus flare—that is damaging her organs as we speak. These numbers aren't just statistics; they are a warning from her doctors that her body is reaching its breaking point
We are in a heartbreaking 'catch-22.' Although ,Heidi has medical insurance in the USA, she is currently medically unfit to fly. With her oxygen levels dropping to 88% at rest and her lung pressure at a critical 90 mmHg, the altitude of a long-haul flight could be fatal she needs oxygen which needs a clearance to fly. We are trapped here in the Philippines until we can stabilize her heart. Because of her pre-existing Lupus, she was uninsurable here with lupus and medical issues , and our travel insurance has already expired and was only short term from years back. In the Philippines, hospitals require large cash deposits before they will even admit a patient or perform a life-saving angiography. She is living on a modest Social Security income and my small earnings , which are not enough to cover these massive upfront medical costs. We are desperate to get her strong enough Maybe eventually return to the US for her long-term care or palliative care, but without your help to fund her immediate treatment here, but she may never get that chance. The Heart specialist Clinic after 3 visits said Coronary Artery Bypass heart surgery is the outcome if they can get other issues under control.
My Plea:
I am not ready to lose her. She is my world. We need to start $10,000 to cover her hospital stay for few days, and the angiography test, and the medications and future medical that will allow her to finally breathe at rest. Please help me give Heidi a second chance or with this terminal medical issue for some relief.. If they can do CABG, that is another $40,000. She needs to see 2 other specialist and more test. Est $80,000 (4.5 M PHP) . Palatine care or end of days nursing would be were the funds go if her health continues to decline , doctor indicated most of this is to keep her comfortable as she is Stage D of congestive heart failure.
"Heidi is a fighter and stubborn and said she will just be ok, but no one should have to fight Lupus, heart disease, and pulmonary hypertension while worrying about how to afford the next treatment. We are seeking to raise $80,000 and on going to cover her extensive medical expenses and give her the best possible shot at recovery or end of life care in peace and out of pain.
Living with the 'invisible' pain of Lupus was hard enough, but adding CHF, CAD, and Pulmonary Hypertension has turned every day into a mountain to climb.
It's a staggering number, but we believe in the power of community. If you cannot donate, please share Heidi's story. We are so grateful for the prayers, the shares, and the kindness that keeps us moving forward."
