Canine Transmissible Venereal Tumor is a sexually transmitted, malignant (cancerous) tumor found in dogs. It spreads through direct skin-to-skin contact, especially during mating.
This is why unneutered dogs are more likely to contract or transmit the disease. Though progressive, TVT is treatable with proper veterinary care.
Treatments include surgical removal, radiation therapy, and chemotherapy. With chemo sessions being the most effective for canine TVT.
The disease is transmissible between dogs but cannot be passed to humans.
This is why it’s essential to neuter your pets, dogs or cats. Neutering not only prevents diseases like TVT, but also avoids the high costs of treatment later on.
When you compare the cost of neutering to the financial and emotional toll of treating a serious illness, prevention is clearly the wiser choice.
We highly recommend Makati Animal Health Clinic for their quality yet affordable veterinary care. Your pet shouldn’t have to suffer through ineffective treatments or unaffordable vet bills.
