Title: "The Tale of Beauty and Modesty"

Materials: Oil paint on 3D linen canvas (50 cm x 70 cm)

Medium: Oil paint

Description:

A depiction of the first woman in the world emerging from a node of bamboo which is part of the pre-colonial Filipino creation myth.

The woman is called "Maganda," which means beautiful. Maganda symbolizes not only physical beauty but also the softness and gentleness of Filipino women.

The story also depicts the Philippines' breathtaking natural landscapes and trees found only in tropical countries, such as bamboo.

Bamboo symbolizes life in Filipino culture, it also represents adaptability, strength, and resourcefulness.

I depict Maganda using a photograph of my niece, Aldryl Shanelle. I gave my artwork a deeper level of intimacy and infused it with love from my family by choosing her as my model.

I want the viewers to enjoy the beauty found not just in Maganda's story but also in modern-day representations of Filipino women.

Overall, this oil painting is more than simply a visual representation; it is a story full of cultural meaning, a tribute to feminine beauty and courage, and a personal journey for me as an artist.

When I paint faces, I occasionally get thoughts like “it doesn’t look good,” “oh, I used the wrong color,” “I overpainted it,” and “this won’t turn out well.”

But after all these thoughts, I just have to trust in the creative process.
