𝗝𝗨𝗦𝗧𝗜𝗖𝗘 𝗙𝗢𝗥 𝗦𝗢𝗣𝗛𝗜𝗔

We condemn the brutal killing of Sophia Marie G. Coquilla, 19 years old, from Brgy. La Filipina, Tagum City. According to the Police, Sophia's life was tragically cut short in her own home as robbers had entered their home. As of the moment, two of the suspects who are minors have already been captured.

We stand in solidarity against this heinous crime and call to bring the murderers to justice for the death of Sophia, a student journalist who always longed to be the voice of hundreds of people suffering and experiencing discrimination, injustice, and abuse.

On behalf of The Light Publication, we extend our deepest condolences to her family and friends.

This is not just a call for justice, but a call for safety and peace. As crimes continue to plague our city, we are shouting for action from the community. Are we really safe, Tagum?

𝐌𝐮𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐏𝐚𝐠𝐝𝐚𝐩𝐨 𝐧𝐠 𝐋𝐢𝐰𝐚𝐧𝐚𝐠 𝐬𝐚 𝐏𝐚𝐢𝐭 𝐧𝐠 𝐍𝐚𝐤𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐚𝐧

Matapos ang mahabang gabi ng katahimikan, nagsimulang magbukas ang isang pintong matagal nang tinatago sa dilim. Hindi ito biglaan, at hindi rin ito mabilisan. Ang hangin ay malamig, at ang mga dahon sa paligid ay kumikilos na para bang may dalang mensahe—mga alingawngaw ng mga kuwento at pangarap na matagal nang nakalimutan. Sa ilalim ng mga bituin, may naririnig na tila mga tinig—mahina sa simula, ngunit unti-unting lumalakas.

Dahan-dahang nagsimula, muling buhayin ang isang bagay na matagal na nawala. Isang bagay na nagbigay-liwanag sa kabataang naghahangad ng pagbabago. Isang simbolo ng muling pag-aalab ng pagnanasa at ang muling pag-aalab ng mga hakbang tungo sa aksyon at pagbabago.

Ang The Light Publication—isang pangalan na matagal nang hindi narinig, ngunit ngayon ay muling nagbigay-ilaw sa madilim na lansangan ng buhay.

Sa kabila ng lahat ng nangyari, ang The Light ay muling bumangon. Ang mga mag-aaral na nagsusulat, naglalathala, at nagbabahagi ng mga kuwento ay nagsanib-puwersa. Ang bawat isyu, artikulo, tula, at kuwento ay naglalaman ng hindi matitinag na sigla. Isang siglang hindi yumuyuko sa mga pagsubok, kundi isang siglang nagsisilbing ilaw sa madilim na panahon.

Ang The Light Publication ay hindi lamang isang pahayagan—ito ay isang simbolo ng muling pagbangon. Ito ay isang plataporma kung saan ang mga mag-aaral ay muling nagtaglay ng lakas upang magsalita at magpahayag ng kanilang mga ideya at opinyon. Sa bawat kuwento ng kabiguan at tagumpay, natutunan nila na ang tunay na liwanag ay hindi mula sa araw, kundi mula sa kanilang mga puso at isipan.

At sa bawat hakbang na kanilang ginawa, sa bawat pangarap na muling nabuhay, natutunan nilang hindi mahalaga kung gaano katagal ang dilim—ang pinakamahalaga ay ang muling pag-apoy ng pagnanasa at ang muling pagbangon upang magbigay-liwanag sa lahat.

𝐑𝐄𝐋𝐈𝐕𝐈𝐍𝐆 | To celebrate years of hard work, perseverance, and growth, the University of Southeastern Philippines Tagum-Mabini Campus, Tagum Unit held its 46th Commencement Exercises at the Physical Education and Cultural Center (PECC) Gymnasium on Wednesday, June 25, 2025, with the theme, "Fostering excellence. Embracing diversity. Transforming communities."

The ceremony was attended by the University President, Dr. Bonifacio G. Gabales, Jr., who officially proclaimed the students as graduates of their respective degree programs.

In addition, Engr. Luis A. Santillan, Jr., Senior Executive Vice President, BioPower Group, delivered his commencement address highlighting the pride of producing globally-competent USePians who can thrive in real-life setting.

“You close one chapter and begin one another but remember it's not a race, but it's a mission, your mission... You are not just graduating but you are stepping to the road of professionals, leaders and contributors of nation building. So I always said, walk with faith, walk the talk and walk with discipline and especially live with purpose because with prayers, perseverance and clarity of vision and grounded on the USeP core values and the graduate attributes you can transform not just your future but the future of your communities.... and your country", Engr. Santillan said.

Moreover, Reymark Namangcayao, a Magna Cum Laude from the Bachelor of Secondary Education Major in Filipino, delivered his Valedictory Address stating that

"At heto na tayo ngayon, hindi na lamang bilang mga estudyante, kung hindii bilang mga saksi ng ating sariling pag-unlad. Nakaupo sa isang lugar na dati’y tanging panaginip lamang. Kung mayroon mang pinakamahalagang natutunan natin sa lahat ng ito, ito marahil ang isa: na ang tagumpay ay hindi laging malakas ang dating; minsan, tahimik itong dumarating, dala ang pagod, luha, at panalangin,” said Namangcayao.

Overall, the 46th Commencement Exercises acknowledged the achievements of graduates and affirmed USeP's mission of excellence and service.

To honor and celebrate the graduating USePians’ achievements, the University of Southeastern Philippines (USeP) Tagum Unit held its recognition day at the Physical Education and Cultural Center (PECC) Gymnasium on Tuesday, June 24, 2025.

The graduating students came from the College of Teacher Education and Technology (CTET) and the College of Engineering (CoE) – Department of Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering (DABE).

The event commenced with a welcome address delivered by USeP Tagum-Mabini Campus Chancellor, Dr. Shirley S. Villanueva, who extended her heartfelt congratulations to all students, with and without awards. She emphasized that every graduating student deserves to be celebrated.

“They said that success is measured by how many times you rise and fall,” Dr. Villanueva highlighted in her speech.

Moreover, Jessa Angela Saclot, a graduating student from the Bachelor of Secondary Education major in Filipino, delivered her words of gratitude to the administrative, teaching, and non-teaching personnel of USeP— acknowledging them as the strong pillars of the university who have steadfastly guided and prepared the students for the larger world.

“Kayo po ang matibay na haligi ng pamantasang ito. Sa bawat sistemang isinulong at inayos, malinaw ang naging layunin, ang ihanda kami sa mas malawak na mundo,” said Saclot.

(You are the strong pillars of this university. In every system you promoted and improved, the goal was clear, to prepare us for the larger world.)

The event concluded with heartfelt applause and pride as graduating students were recognized for their hard work, resilience, and dedication throughout their academic journey.
