Typhoon Tino (international name: Kalmaegi) made landfall over Silago, Southern Leyte around 1:00 a.m. Tuesday, according to the 2:00 a.m. Tropical Cyclone Bulletin No. 11 issued by PAGASA.
At landfall, Tino packed maximum sustained winds of 150 km/h, gustiness of up to 205 km/h, and was moving westward at 30 km/h. PAGASA said strong to typhoon-force winds extend outward up to 300 kilometers from the center.
Several areas in Northern and Central Cebu โ including the cities of Lapu-Lapu, Mandaue, Cebu, Talisay, Toledo, Danao, and Bogo, as well as Cordova, Balamban, Asturias, Compostela, Liloan, Consolacion, Borbon, Carmen, Tuburan, Catmon, Sogod, Tabuelan, Tabogon, San Remigio, Minglanilla, and Camotes Islands โ are still under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) No. 4. These areas may experience typhoon-force winds posing a significant to severe threat to life and property within the next 12 hours.
Meanwhile, TCWS No. 3 remains hoisted over Carcar, Naga, and several southern and central Cebu municipalities, as well as Bantayan Islands, where storm-force winds and moderate to significant impacts are expected.
PAGASA warns of heavy rainfall, destructive winds, and storm surges in areas along the stormโs path, particularly in low-lying and coastal communities across the Visayas. Sea travel remains risky across all seaboards of the Visayas and northern Mindanao due to very rough to high seas reaching up to nine meters.
The weather bureau said Tino is forecast to cross the Visayas and northern Palawan throughout Tuesday and emerge over the West Philippine Sea by Wednesday morning, before exiting the Philippine Area of Responsibility by late Wednesday or early Thursday.
Authorities continue to urge residents in high-risk areas to heed evacuation orders and monitor official advisories from PAGASA and local disaster offices.
The next Tropical Cyclone Bulletin will be issued at 5:00 a.m. today.
