One thing I learned the hard way:
not all clients mean what they say in the same way.
Here’s my POV 👀
An American client will usually be super direct.
If they don’t like something, they’ll just tell you.
At first it feels harsh, but really…
it saves time.
A UK client?
Totally different.
They’ll say, “That’s quite good,” and you might think it’s praise.
In reality, it means “Try harder.”
They’re polite, but you have to read between the lines.
And then Aussies.
They’re funny, relaxed, and casual.
They’ll throw in “looks good, mate” or “no worries,” and it feels like you’re talking to a friend.
But don’t get too comfy.
They still expect you to deliver on time.
Chinese clients are straightforward too!
They value results and efficiency.
If they don’t like something, they’ll tell you plain and quick without flowery explanations.
The more I worked with them, the more I understood:
picking up the tone behind their words is just as important as hearing the words themselves.
Clients might come from different cultures,
but if you learn how they really communicate,
you’ll avoid misunderstandings…
and build stronger relationships.
