The film ๐˜Ž๐˜ข๐˜ฏ๐˜ข๐˜ฌ๐˜ข revolves around a heartfelt and culturally rooted story inspired by the local dish sisig and the celebration of Motherโ€™s Day.

Following this, film director Fritz Miguel Gonzales shared that the story was initially pitched by Princess Kyla Gilhang, who also served as assistant director and co-writer.

โ€œGusto naming makabuo ng istoryang simple [at] totoo, pero makabuluhan,โ€ Gonzales said, adding that while his creative vision for the filmโ€™s tone and pacing was clear from the start, the project was shaped through teamwork.

Highlighting the teamโ€™s collective effort, he credited the entire DevCom Creatives group, particularly writers Parungao and Gilhang for their contributions to the scriptwriting, storyboarding, and post-production.

Parungao described the writing process as โ€œintense, emotional, and collaborative.โ€ She shared that the team completed the script in under a week, with support from language professionals and continuous revisions based on feedback.

โ€œEvery time [na] rine-revise namin ang script at babasahin ulit, laging may iyakan session na nangyayari,โ€ she expressed while recalling challenges of writing one of the most emotionally heavy scenesโ€”a monologue addressed to the protagonistโ€™s late mother.

Though the production initially progressed smoothly, the team encountered a major setback when corrupted video files forced them to reshoot the entire film just days before the submission deadline.

He also noted that multiple takes were needed to meet the teamโ€™s standards, particularly in emotionally demanding scenes, which is why he once again expressed gratitude to his team members for dedicating their time to complete the film despite having to sacrifice their summer break.

As a graduating student, Gonzales considered Ganaka his final creative work in college and described the experience as overwhelming yet fulfilling.

โ€œThis is my last project, thatโ€™s why I want to leave a legacy. [Kaya] noong nalaman kong nominated ako as Best Director at nanalo kami ng 3rd Best Film, sobrang saya at pasasalamat ang naramdaman ko,โ€ he said.

As students, the DevCom Creativesโ€™ writer and director mentioned how their experience in the competition did not just provide them a platform to show their talents but also lessons and realizations worth keeping.
For Gonzales, the biggest learning that he acquired during the competition was the power of storytelling.

โ€œStories are truly powerfulโ€”powerful enough to connect people,โ€ he said.

Reflecting on the festival, Parungao expressed that CuiSinema wasnโ€™t just a festival but a space for growth, collaboration and storytelling. She also emphasized that film writing is about capturing raw emotions, culture, and truth.

Aside from bagging the 3rd Best Film Award, Ganaka also won 2nd Best in Screenplay Award and 2nd Best in Cinematography Award.

It also received nominations in the following categories: Best Movie Poster, Best Soundtrack, and Best Production Design.

Individual recognitions were also given to the cast and crew: Princess Eldy Tiamzon, nominated for Best Supporting Actress, Patrick Duane Avila, nominated for Best Actor, Eljean Mae Parungao, nominated for Best Actress, and Fritz Miguel Gonzales, nominated for Best Director.

The creative team behind Ganaka includes Princess Kyla Gilhang, Eljean Mae Parungao, Clark Jay Ignilan, Christian Malate, Patrick Duane Avila, Princess Eldy Tiamzon, and the 2025 Outstanding Student in Media Arts, Fritz Miguel Gonzales, led by Mr. Gabriel Lorenzo.

Whether on a list of honor students, youth leaders, church servants, pageant candidates, or even the volleyball varsity rosterโ€”his name is there. It may seem overwhelming, but he managed to accomplish it all in his four-year climb to the summit of becoming a physical educator.

Raised in the humble land of Santo Niรฑo, Magalang, Aldrain Espartero Mallari is the Academic Excellence Awardee of the graduating class of 2025, having earned the top general weighted average of 1.254โ€”his third time to step up on stage with the highest distinction, after receiving the same recognition twice at Ayala High School.

Interestingly, Aldrain breaks the common notion of a valedictorian. He is not the library guy or the "nerdy" classmate, but his collegiate journey has been about more than just mastering his studiesโ€”it has transformed his personality and the manner he treats others.

As an overachieverโ€”or โ€œwalang kapaguran,โ€ as he puts itโ€”Aldrain seized every opportunity he believed he could juggle with his scholarly responsibilities. Even former Supreme Student Council (SSC) president and alumnus Nathaniel Pamintuan saw his potential in student governance. Although Aldrain appreciated the offers to vie for a college student council or an SSC position, he respectfully declined, choosing instead to maximize his time for his athletic commitment.

"I [decided] that time, bago ako pumasok ng college, kailangan kong pumili ng isa lang," he confessed, adding that he might fail to fulfill his obligations to either group if he insisted on joining both.

Though he refused to lead the student body, Aldrain opted to serve the youth of Santo Niรฑo. He ran and won as a Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) councilor in 2023, simultaneously serving as a lector at Balas Malutu Chapel.

He even uncovered potential in the pageant world, earning titles as Lakan ng Wika 2023 and Mr. PSAU 2024 third runner-up.

Asked about how he managed all of these in college, the outstanding student highlighted five significant keysโ€”using time wisely, believing in oneself, trusting God, taking time to rest, and prioritizing academics over any extracurricular.

Like a volleyball player anticipating a serve, these involvements, which he considered โ€œtraining grounds,โ€ helped him become more disciplined, cooperative, and responsible as he continued navigating the path toward the teaching profession.

Entering the university with classes held online, Aldrainโ€™s beginning was far from easyโ€”particularly as a physical education (PE) major. He was once clueless, afraid of his professors, and pressured by the strict grade retention.

But โ€œBPEd is the dream,โ€ the 22-year-old student-athlete emphasizedโ€”an aspiration that began when he was in junior high. Apart from his athleticism, Aldrain has always admired his high school PE teachers, some of whom have been his greatest inspirations.

Despite being overwhelmed by the number of students on campus, he also once dreamed of attaining the accolade he now holdsโ€”to be at the top of his batch.

When Aldrain works, he gives his all. He is never satisfied with effortless outputsโ€”he is somewhat of a perfectionist. "Gagawin ko ang lahat, whatever it takes, to reach [my] goals.โ€

He carried out this promise very well, preoccupying his mind with a humbling thought that served as his personal driving force. "Sinasabi ko [palagi] sa sarili ko na hindi ako matalinong tao, hindi ako magaling," he shared.

While not as studious as many might expect, Aldrain approaches studying differently. He stays up late but rarely associates himself with study buddies.

However, there were times he had to face unpleasant feedback from classmates due to his perfectionist attitude. He also admits that there were instances when he displayed undesirable reactions toward them.

"Sometimes, napapakitaan ko sila ng attitude na first time din nilang [ma-encounter],โ€ he disclosed.

But those moments served as lessonsโ€”he learned to acknowledge his mistakes, humble himself, and ultimately reshape his personality.

"But then, I realized that I must not hold onto my pride because it will just hinder my growth."

When one is striving for something great, Aldrainโ€™s experience is a reminder that being kind is often the better way to get there. In volleyball, excessive force in a spike can send the ball out of bounds, resulting in an attack error. The same holds true in lifeโ€”everything must be controlled.

Aldrain knew not everyone wanted to see him succeedโ€”some waited for him to slip.

But he never let the whispers take control. What mattered more was the strength of his support system.

Aldrain gave credit to the love of his parentsโ€”Alvin and Reina, brothers, and relatives, whose support was unwavering along the wayโ€”in every endeavor. โ€

He also valued the support of his closest friends in college, the SK council, the volleyball team, and his girlfriendโ€”Alyssa Yna, to whom he has always been very vocal.

As he leaves PSAU, Aldrain carries more than a diplomaโ€”he takes lessons he will pass on. He advises students to always remember their reason why they started, accept that not everyone will support them, and avoid comparisonโ€”consistency, passion, and the willingness to be better are tickets toward holistic growth.

With a legacy established, Sir Aldrain also champions the legitimacy of his field. To those who belittle Bachelor of Physical Education (BPEd), he offers a simple truth: โ€œWala pong madaling [college program].โ€ His success stands as living proof that they can also shine brightly.

He officially received his award on June 18, alongside a special recognition as the Best Student Teacher in Physical Education. And for these, Aldrain remarked, โ€œSobrang proud ko sa sarili ko now.โ€

Embarking on a fresh journey, the Santo Niรฑo native transitions into new rolesโ€”a teacher and volleyball coach.

Asked about what โ€˜the dreamโ€™ is now, Aldrain hopes โ€œto passโ€ฆand at the same time, top the Licensure Examination for Teachers (LET)โ€ in September.

Now on the service line, Aldrain prepares to serveโ€”not just a ball but a Soaring Eagle legacy, sowing the seeds for a better world.

MAGALANG, Pampangaโ€”A total of 1,492 scholars marched their way to the Bren Z. Guiao Memorial Multi-Purpose Center for the conferment of their respective degrees during the 11th Commencement Exercises of Pampanga State Agricultural University (PSAU) on June 18โ€“19, 2025.

The graduates came from the seven colleges and the Graduate School (GS) of the University. Alumni from the College of Arts and Sciences, College of Education, and College of Business, Economics and Entrepreneurship earned their diplomas on June 18, while those from the College of Agriculture Systems and Technology, College of Forestry and Agroforestry, College of Engineering and Computer Studies, College of Veterinary Medicine, and GS graduates had their rites the following day.

Bannering the theme, โ€œScholars of Today, Stewards of a Sustainable and Blissful Tomorrow,โ€ Magalang Mayor Maria Lourdes โ€œMaluโ€ Lacson graced the two-day event with a congratulatory message on behalf of the town.

Mayor Lacson reminded the Class of 2025 graduates that graduation marks the start of a new missionโ€”the real stewardship.

โ€œA mission to lead with purpose, values, and humilityโ€”to succeed not just for yourself but for others, especially those who have less in life,โ€ Lacson noted.

Before concluding, she left the PSAU graduates with three pieces of advice: โ€œRemember your roots, protect your integrity, and make bliss your legacy.โ€

During the confirmation of graduation, University President Dr. Anita David turned emotional as she shared stories of parental love being significantly instrumental in the triumph of every graduate.

โ€œAs you travel the ladder [towards] success, sana papataas din 'yung pagmamahal ninyo sa mga magulang at pamilya ninyo,โ€ President David tearfully noted.

Meanwhile, Department of Budget and Management (DBM) Secretary Amenah Pangandaman served as the guest of honor and speaker for the first-day graduates. She was accompanied by Undersecretaries Goddes Hope Libiran and Wilford Will Ong.

In her commencement address, Secretary Pangadaman highlighted the inspiring stories of graduates Brenner Basa and Sharmane Rellamaโ€”narratives that featured resilience and self-discovery, and served as a reminder for the graduates that success is measured not just by awards, but also by courage and determination.

โ€œDistinctions or titles donโ€™t define your excellence, but by the small compounding acts of kindness that ripple outward,โ€ the DBM secretary emphasized.

On the second day, Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Commissioner Desiderio Apag III addressed the graduates, referring to them as โ€œleaders in the makingโ€ and encouraged them to embrace their purpose and start making an impact.

โ€œClass of 2025, the world youโ€™re entering is full of challenges [and] responsibilities, [but it] has never needed you more than it needs you now,โ€ Commissioner Apag said.

The CHED commissioner also underscored the importance of purpose in life saying, โ€œHuwag kayong matakot magkamali, matakot kayong mawalan ng layunin. The world isnโ€™t just waiting for professionals, itโ€™s waiting for people with purpose.โ€

As the ceremonies drew to a close, the graduates pledged their loyalty to their alma mater and took their oath as members of the PSAU Federation of Alumni Associations, ready to transform lessons into meaningful change for a blissful tomorrow.
