Some varieties of coleus plants are toxic to animals,🐕🐈

Yes, some varieties of coleus plants are toxic to animals, including cats, dogs, and horses. The toxicity stems from essential oils and compounds like diterpene coleonol and coleone .

Ingestion can lead to symptoms such as vomiting, diarrhea (sometimes bloody), depression, anorexia, and in severe cases, even death. Skin contact can also cause irritation. However, the toxicity level varies among different coleus species; some are less toxic than others. Coleus canina, for example, has an unpleasant odor that deters animals .

If you suspect your pet has ingested a coleus plant, contact your veterinarian or the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center immediately. Prevention is key; keep coleus plants out of reach of your pets or choose non-toxic alternatives .

How to Use Bananas to Control Aphids🪴

1. Banana Peel Mulch
Method: Chop up banana peels into small pieces and bury them 1-2 inches deep around the base of the affected plants.

Benefit: As the peels decompose, they release nutrients that enhance soil fertility, which can improve plant health and resilience against pests like aphids.

2. Banana Peel Spray
Preparation: Soak banana peels in a jar of water, covering it with a lid, and let it sit for 48 hours.

Application: Strain the water and pour it into a spray bottle. Spray the mixture directly onto the plants where aphids are present.

Benefit: The spray helps repel aphids and can reduce their populations without the use of harsh chemicals.

3. Attracting Natural Predators
Technique: Place chopped banana peels on a small tray or directly on the soil surface near the affected plants.

Benefit: Banana peels attract insects like ladybugs and lacewings, which are natural predators of aphids.

IDENTIFY the different types of Pothos by their leaves!🪴

NEON POTHOS -The Neon Pothos is a vibrant cultivar of the popular pothos plant, known for its striking, bright lime-green foliage. Unlike the Golden Pothos, which features a mix of green and yellow-gold, the Neon Pothos boasts a consistently bright, almost electric, chartreuse hue. This makes it a particularly eye-catching addition to any indoor space.

GOLDEN POTHOS - The golden pothos, also known as devil's ivy, money plant, or hunter's robe, is a popular houseplant prized for its ease of care and attractive variegated foliage. Its heart-shaped leaves are typically a marbled mix of green and yellow-gold, though variations exist. Native to French Polynesia, it's now a globally cultivated plant, but considered invasive in some regions

MANJULA POTHOS -The Manjula Pothos is a highly sought-after cultivar of Epipremnum aureum, known for its striking variegated leaves. Unlike the more common Golden Pothos, the Manjula boasts a unique pattern of creamy white, light green, and dark green variegation in large, heart-shaped leaves with wavy edges. This creates a fuller, bushier appearance than many other pothos varieties

JADE POTHOS . The Jade Pothos is a cultivar of Epipremnum aureum that stands out for its solid, deep green foliage. Unlike the variegated varieties like Golden Pothos or Neon Pothos, the Jade Pothos lacks any yellow or lighter green variegation, resulting in a rich, uniform green color throughout its leaves. This makes it a classic and elegant choice for those who prefer a more understated look.

REVERTED MANJULA -A reverted Manjula pothos is a plant that has lost its characteristic variegation—the creamy white and green marbling on its leaves—and reverted to a uniform, solid green color. This is a common issue with variegated plants, including the Manjula pothos.

NJOY POTHOS - The N'Joy Pothos is a cultivar of Epipremnum aureum, prized for its striking variegated leaves and compact, bushy growth habit. Unlike the more common Golden Pothos, the N'Joy features smaller, thinner leaves with more pronounced areas of creamy white and green variegation. This creates a fuller, more densely leaved appearance than many other pothos varieties

MARBLE QUEEN POTHOS.- The Marble Queen Pothos is a highly popular cultivar of Epipremnum aureum, prized for its striking variegated leaves. Unlike the solid green Jade Pothos or the bright yellow-green Neon Pothos, the Marble Queen features a captivating mix of deep green and creamy white variegation on its classic heart-shaped leaves. This variegation can vary significantly between leaves and plants, adding to its unique charm.
