Today, August 21, is Internet Self-Care Day.

And because it also happens to be Friday, this feels less like a holiday and more like an intervention. 😂

Close the laptop.
Put the phone down.
Mute the group chat.
Leave the comments section unsupervised.

Not every message needs an immediate reply. Not every opinion needs your participation. And that email will still be there on Monday, sitting there smugly like it pays rent.

So log off. Eat something. Go outside. Stare at a wall if necessary.

You have officially done enough internet for one week.

Cookie Monster + Harrison Ford.

At this point, the algorithm is getting suspiciously personal. 😂

Cookie Monster has always been one of my Sesame Street favorites, along with Oscar the Grouch and The Count.

Apparently, I have always liked characters with very strong personalities.

Cookie Monster wants cookies.
Oscar is grumpy.
The Count counts.

No identity crisis. No unnecessary reinvention. No 47-slide presentation explaining who they are.

Then there’s Harrison Ford.

Han Solo.
Indiana Jones.
And Linus Larrabee in Sabrina, which may not have been his biggest box-office moment, but did extremely well at the box office of my heart.

And yes, before the Humphrey Bogart delegation arrives, I still prefer Harrison Ford.

This is not film criticism.
This is chemistry. 😂

Also, branding lesson hiding in plain sight: the most memorable characters are usually the most specific.

Distinct personality.
Consistent behavior.
Instant recognition.

Basically, Cookie Monster has been doing brand strategy correctly for decades.

Today, August 20, is International Hawaiian Pizza Day.

Which means the internet gets another perfectly reasonable opportunity to behave like pineapple on pizza is a constitutional crisis.

For the record, we are not here to settle the debate.

We are here to observe it from a safe distance while eating the evidence.

Pineapple is living its truth.
Ham has somehow avoided all accountability.
Cheese is doing emotional labor.
And the comments section is already wearing boxing gloves.

Please discuss calmly.

Today, August 19, we’re celebrating National Potato Day.

And if we’re being honest, fries are the headliner.

Not to be dramatic, but some of us have never met a potato we couldn’t love: fried, mashed, baked, chipped, or totted.

But McDonald’s fries? That’s not just a snack. That’s an emotional support system.

So here’s to the humble potato: versatile, comforting, and somehow always welcome even when we are already full.

PS: “I’ll just have a few fries” remains one of the great fictional statements of our time.

Today, August 18, is Bad Poetry Day.

Which is excellent news for anyone who has ever written something, stared at it proudly, and thought:

Well. That certainly contains words.

So today, we lower the bar, ignore the rhyme scheme, abandon literary merit, and celebrate the kind of poetry that makes absolutely no sense but somehow feels deeply personal.

Because sometimes life is profound.

And sometimes you save $12 by spending $63.

Today, August 17, we’re celebrating National I Love My Feet Day.

And frankly, they’ve earned it.

They’ve carried us through work, errands, bad shoes, long days, questionable footwear decisions, and the occasional “it’s just a short walk” lie.

So put them up. Soak them. Moisturize them. Book the pedicure. Wear the comfortable shoes.

They have, quite literally, been supporting you this whole time. 😂

Apparently today, August 16, is National Tell a Joke Day.

We were going to come up with one.

Then life volunteered:
our bank account,
our sleep schedule,
the “quick question” email,
and the five-minute errand that somehow became a three-hour commitment.

Apparently today, August 15, is National Relaxation Day AND National Lemon Meringue Pie Day.

We’ve decided that whenever the calendar gives us a holiday that’s funny, oddly specific, or simply too good to ignore, we’re celebrating it here.

Because not every post needs to be serious. Sometimes the internet just needs pie.

And frankly, a Saturday devoted to relaxing and lemon meringue feels unusually well planned. 😂🍋🥧

To everyone who waited all week to accomplish absolutely nothing today: this one’s for you.

Happy International Left-Handers Day to everyone in the world-was-clearly-designed-by-someone-else club. ✋😂

Lefties know the drill.

Ink smudged along the side of the hand.

School desks with the writing arm on the right.

Scissors that somehow make you feel like you’ve forgotten how hands work.

Spiral notebooks that become tiny metal obstacles.

Can openers and computer mice clearly designed by people who never thought to ask, What about the other 10%?

One of the sweetest lefty stories I know is of a grade-school Home Economics teacher who actually learned how to demonstrate sewing stitches with her left hand so she could properly teach one left-handed student.

That kind of kindness stays with you.

And sometimes left-handedness runs through families in the funniest way.

One left-handed grandfather. Six children who were apparently all right-handed. Then every single one of those six had at least one left-handed child.

The gene basically skipped a generation and then returned demanding representation from every branch of the family.

Very organized of it. 😂

Lefties also develop their own operating systems.

Fork on the left, spoon on the right when using both.

Remove the fork?

Suddenly the spoon migrates to the left.

Apparently the right hand only functions with adult supervision.

And because life likes consistency, somehow it also feels like every inconvenience chooses the left side first.

Still, lefties are in excellent company: Leonardo da Vinci, Barack Obama, Bill Gates, and very proudly for Filipinos, Alex Eala.

So yes, the world can keep its right-handed scissors.

Lefties will adapt.

They always do.

They’ll just have ink on the side of their hand while doing it. 😂

My social media algorithms have apparently decided I’ve spent enough time talking about luxury, fashion and retail.

Lately, they’ve been serving me Filipino VAs, offshore teams and remote workers.

LinkedIn started it. Then Facebook joined in.

(I tried to mind my own business. The algorithms said no.)

And after reading enough posts about how hardworking, loyal, proactive, resourceful, world-class and downright indispensable Filipino remote workers are, I found myself asking one slightly awkward question:

Does the paycheck know? 👀

Because I love the praise. Filipino professionals deserve the recognition.

But true praise, appreciation and acknowledgement should eventually find their way into the paycheck.

So I wrote about it.

The short version:

🇵🇭 Keep praising Filipino talent. The recognition is deserved.

💰 Yes, offshore hiring saves companies money. I have absolutely no problem with that.

⚖️ But cost-efficient and “what is the absolute minimum this person will accept?” are two very different things.

📈 If someone was hired as a VA but is now managing clients, projects, people and operations, perhaps the salary should meet the new job too.

(The original job description was not brought down from Mount Sinai.)

🏠 And the famous cost-of-living argument raises a question: if an American remote worker moves to Manila, does his salary immediately become the Filipino salary?

Same job. Same experience. Same city. Same cost of living.

(No, really. I’m asking. He’s still waiting in Chapter 3.)

🏷️ And if we rename VAs “operators” because the old title no longer reflects what they actually do, wonderful.

But if the only thing that changes is the vocabulary…

We rebranded the box.

Companies can still save a lot of money hiring in the Philippines.

Filipino professionals can also be paid very well.

Both sides can win.

So please keep telling everyone how exceptional your Filipino team is.

Just make sure payroll is reading your posts too.

(For brand consistency.) 😌
