LOOK: President Bongbong Marcos tries to make a lift during the re-opening of the Philsports Complex and launches new sports facilities
The Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) celebrated a significant milestone with the official reopening of the Philsports Complex, alongside the inauguration of the National Athletic Center and the National Sports Museum—major legacy projects personally overseen by President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. and First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos. They were accompanied by Presidential son and PSC Sports Ambassador Vinny Marcos.
In front of national athletes, para-athletes, Olympians, and sports officials—including the country’s first Olympic gold medalist Hidilyn Diaz—President Marcos reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to uplifting Philippine sports. “Sports teaches us so many things to build our values and character. We want to make sure our athletes have everything they need,” he said.
The ribbon-cutting ceremony, inspection of athlete dormitories, and tour of the National Sports Museum were also attended by key national leaders. Among them were Philippine Olympic Committee President Bambol Tolentino, Philippine Paralympic Committee President Mike Barredo, DILG Secretary Jonvic Remulla, DepEd Secretary Sonny Angara, DPWH Secretary Vince Dizon, PAGCOR Chairman Alejandro Tengco, PCSO General Manager Mel Robles, PCO Secretary Dave Gomez, and House Youth and Sports Committee Chairman Congressman Mike Dy. The meaningful program was organized by the Social Secretary’s Office under Deputy Social Secretary Dina Arroyo-Tantoco.
The reopening underscores the PSC’s mandate to establish, develop, and maintain world-class sports facilities nationwide—enhancing athlete preparation, promoting healthier communities, and strengthening the Philippines’ position as a sports tourism destination.
PSC Chairman Patrick Gregorio likened the unity and collaboration of partner agencies to the tactics of competitive cycling, emphasizing that while cycling may appear to be an individual sport, success often relies on teamwork.
