Indonesia has introduced humanoid robots and robotic dogs to modernize its police force.
During the 79th anniversary of the Indonesian National Police (Polri) on July 1, 2025, in Jakarta, 25 robot units were showcased—including humanoid officers, robotic dogs called I-K9s, and even tank-like and farming robots.
These machines are equipped with advanced tech like facial recognition, surveillance tools, and sensors to detect explosives or narcotics. They're designed to help with tasks such as bomb disposal, hostage negotiation, search and rescue, crowd control, and traffic monitoring.
Wearing police uniforms and black berets, the robots are part of Polri’s plan to use more technology in policing. I-K9 robot dogs will sniff out dangerous substances and support anti-drug efforts in a country known for its tough drug laws.
Polri has outlined seven main tasks for the robots, including smart patrols, forensic evidence collection, hazardous zone monitoring, and improving public safety during emergencies or large gatherings.
