P R A Y E R
Deliver us, O Lord, from all forms of greed and dishonesty,
from the mad craving for material wealth to be attained at by all means,
with no concern for the rights and dignity of others.
Make us realize that the resources of this world
are meant by You for all human beings, who are all your beloved children,
and not just to satisfy the greed and voracity of a few.
Deliver us, O Lord, from complacency and sloth,
from an idle faith that delegates the solutions of all problems
to You, while complaining about the evils of the present
and offering empty prayer that you refuse to accept because they came from individuals or groups that have not done their share.
Grant us a new heart, O Lord, and a new spirit;
fill us with Your creativity and resourcefulness,
that we may take responsibility for the solution
of the many problems that vex humankind,
and are bent on promoting justice, peace, and enduring progress
on our planet, and especially in our land.
Inspire us to do more to make our dreams come true
and give us the strength that we need to persevere
in the good work that you entrusted to all of us as your responsible partners.
Let no one say that our Catholic faith is an op**te
that fosters resignation to evil, idleness and escapism.
Let no one say that those who believe in the life to come
neglect and ignore this life on earth.
Let our leaders and all the lay Catholics from all walks of life take the lead
in fighting corruption, in protecting the weak and the oppressed,
promoting justice and offering to all
the peace and security they yearn for.
Let the gift of faith we have received at our baptism,
Have restated at our confirmation,
and which we profess in our prayers be the inner motivation
that brings us to give our very best in building your kingdom
in our own lives, our own families, and our world,
and thereby be an example and inspiration
even to those who do not yet know or love you.
