BFP deploys personnel and assets, evacuates 969 after Mindanao Earthquake
Following the 7.8 magnitude earthquake in Mindanao, the Bureau of Fire Protection, led by Officer-in-Charge FCSUPT Wilberto Rico Neil A Kwan Tiu, responded immediately by activating its Emergency Operations Center (EOC). BFP Regions 11 and 12 are currently on Full Alert Status (Code Red), starting June 8. BFP Personnel, working with local disaster reduction and management offices, helping clear debris, monitor evacuation centers, and assess damage to infrastructure. Teams have successfully evacuated 969 individuals in the affected areas.
The BFP activated multiple assets to support the ground operations, including 130 Search, Rescue and Retrieval (SRR) personnel, 14 rescue trucks, 1 ambulance, and an Incident Command Vehicle to the response effort. Additionally, the BFP sent 103 fire trucks with 257 crew members, along with 22 ambulances with 109 Emergency Medical Services (EMS) personnel.
Teams are also handling retrieval efforts, with rescuers recovering two bodies in Sarangani, Davao Occidental, Region 11 and 21 bodies in Region 12, from Calumpang, San Jose, Siguel, Lagao, KCC GenSan, and Malapatan.
The BFP remains on the ground to assist the local units, secure the area and assist the affected communities.
