TOPIC: THE ODYSSEY (2026)
Disclaimer: I’m not a movie critic. I’m just someone who genuinely loves Greek mythology.
Watching The Odyssey yesterday reminded me why I fell in love with Greek mythology in the first place. It made me want to go back and read the stories all over again.
One thing I’ve realized is that no movie adaptation will ever capture a BOOK perfectly. There will always be scenes that are omitted, characters whose roles are shortened, or events that are changed to fit the flow and runtime of a film. That’s not necessarily a flaw, it’s simply the reality of turning hundreds of pages into a movie.
So if you’re watching The Odyssey, don’t expect it to be The Iliad. Yes, they’re connected, but they’re two different epics with two different stories. The Odyssey is about Odysseus and his journey home after the Trojan War, so it only makes sense that the film stays focused on his story.
I’ve also seen a lot of people asking, “Where’s Achilles?” But Achilles isn’t the focus of this story. And yes, Elliot’s character isn’t Achilles..he’s Sinon. As for those wishing Gal Gadot had played Helen of Troy, remember that Helen only appears briefly in The Odyssey. It wouldn’t make much sense to cast such a huge star for just a couple of minutes on screen.
At the end of the day, I think the best way to enjoy the film is to appreciate it for what it is not for what we expected it to be. For me, it wasn’t about seeing every character or every scene from the myths. It was about experiencing Odysseus’ incredible journey, and I honestly enjoyed it.
More than anything, it made me miss the world of Greek mythology and I think that’s one of the best things a film can do.
And I’m still looking for a secondhand book of The Odyssey by Homer❤️📚🌊 (para mas mura syempre) 😉
