The Philippines was conducting legitimate duties at Ayungin Shoal when a China Coast Guard RHIB closed in at close range, resulting in the injury of a Philippine Navy personnel during the incident.

The Western Command (WESCOM), Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), promptly rendered medical assistance to the injured personnel and is now coordinating with the BRP Sierra Madre to assess the severity of the injuries and determine whether medical evacuation is necessary.

Despite the provocation, AFP personnel demonstrated discipline, professionalism, and strict adherence to the rules of engagement.

Our troops aboard the BRP Sierra Madre and across the WESCOM Area of Responsibility (AOR) continue to perform their duties with courage, professionalism, and dedication despite sustained pressure and harassment.
