The Sangguniang Kabataan of Barangay Tañong recognized outstanding individuals and community groups for their efforts in advancing youth and barangay development during first-ever Gawad Parangal held August 21 at the Tañong Covered Court.

The SK Tañong recognized young individuals who excelled in different fields. Awards given included the Artistic Award, Tourism and Culture Awards, SK Service Award, and Honesty Award.

Academic achievers were also honored, including graduates from various universities who finished with distinction.

Malabon officials and leaders, including Youth Development Officer Ivy Dela Cruz, DILG-Malabon Field Office Administrator Eden Reyes, Barangay Tañong Chairman Alma Buenaventura, and Mayor Jeannie Sandoval, expressed their support for the event.

They also thanked SK Tañong for organizing the program and highlighted the importance of youth involvement in barangay development.

The SK council also held its second Katipunan ng Kabataan (KK) Assembly to report accomplishments and outline new plans and projects for the youth.

In the “Stories of Community” segment, Tañong’s youth showcased their talents in sports competitions, beauty pageants, and effigy-making contests. Artistic Awardee Julian Sandoval, or X.1.1, gave a standout performance that impressed attendees.

SK Secretary Justin Manalaysay led the formal presentation of the Comprehensive Barangay Youth Development Plan (CBYDP).

The plan will guide the SK Tañong’s programs for the next three years, covering education, health, social inclusion and equity, peacebuilding and security, environment and agriculture, global mobility, economic empowerment, and governance and active citizenship. Manalaysay explained how each area will address the needs of the youth and benefit the community.

During the program, the SK Chair Legaspi reviewed its accomplishments from 2023 to the present and highlighted programs and projects that benefited the youth.

A key project, the Brgy. Tañong Learning Hub, was launched through an audio-visual presentation. The Learning Hub will serve as a safe space for youth to study, explore, and grow their skills.

Angelika Mae Vertudes, Mutya ng Tanong 2024 and Bb. Tanong 2025, delivered a message encouraging youth leadership and active participation in community development.

Treasurer Precious Gail Hilario presented the SK Annual Budget Report and explained how funds were used for different projects and services.

Following the report, SK members participated in a panel discussion where they shared their experiences, the challenges they faced, and the lessons they learned while serving in the council.

SK Secretary Manalaysay said that every story of the youth in Tañong holds value.

He stressed that this is what drives the SK to continue serving the barangay. “Naniniwala ako bilang lider-kabataan na ang lahat ng kwento ay mahalaga. Ang bawat proyekto ng Sangguniang Kabataan ay magiging tungtungan ng bawat indibidwal at sector para sa mas inklusibo at progresibong Batang Tañong,” he added.

[LITERARY] To the Throne I Never Asked For

Today, I lace my armor in silence– though no war was declared; it’s already begun.
As the golden sun rises and unfurls its wings across the horizon, a long, tearful day flashes before me. I find myself adrift, preparing to fight once more.

I am no king, nor of royal blood. My parents aren’t monarchs, yet they rule our home with quiet tyranny. My siblings aren’t heirs to any throne, and yet I compete—desperately—for the faintest trace of recognition from our highnesses.
Our blood isn’t blue, but we all feel blue. It doesn't bind us—it runs thin. Easy to spill. Easy to drift. Just like we do.

In this family, war is constant. But each battle is fought alone. No soldiers. No shields. Just unspoken dreams and the ache to be seen.
We live in a castle that offers everything, except happiness.

"𝘞𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘶𝘴𝘦 𝘪𝘴 𝘢 𝘨𝘰𝘭𝘥𝘦𝘯 𝘱𝘭𝘢𝘵𝘦 𝘸𝘩𝘦𝘯 𝘭𝘰𝘷𝘦 𝘯𝘰 𝘭𝘰𝘯𝘨𝘦𝘳 𝘧𝘪𝘭𝘭𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘵𝘢𝘣𝘭𝘦?"

And then it hits me: no amount of provision can satisfy if affection is rationed, if tenderness is withheld like a privilege earned.
As these thoughts simmer inside me, I find myself at the edge of a cliff.
Before me: everything. Everyone. And something more: things I’ve never seen, waiting to challenge me.
Must every hard-fought battle end in triumph?
Is running always an act of cowardice—or could it be a silent kind of wisdom?

"𝗦𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲𝘀, 𝗿𝗲𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗳𝗲𝗮𝗿, 𝗶𝘁’𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝗳𝘂𝘀𝗮𝗹 𝘁𝗼 𝗯𝗹𝗲𝗲𝗱 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘀𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘄𝗼𝗻’𝘁 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗹 𝘆𝗼𝘂."

Why am I telling you this?

Because we are all born into crowns we didn’t ask to wear, expected to follow laws we didn’t help create.
"Some kingdoms are not made of land and stone, but of silence, pressure, and the longing to be free."

Should I run?
Perhaps.
Perhaps not.

But you—you should run. Run far. Run fast. And fight, in whatever way you must.
Suddenly, smoke veils my vision. The cliff fades. The world dissolves.
I open my eyes, disoriented. A dream. Or maybe a memory, wearing the face of one.
I rise. Another exhausting day awaits.

In the kitchen, my family is gathered. The king and queen. The prince and princesses. All eating in silence. I feel it again, that weight. That prison that was made out of comfort and control.

And so, with trembling nerves, I approach their highnesses and speak--not with rage, but with fragile truth:

“Mom... may I choose the path I truly want--not the one you and Dad laid out for me? May I love who I love? Go where I long to go? Discover who I am, not as you paint me, but as I learn to paint myself?” I say it all in one breath, nearly collapsing beneath the weight of my own voice.

“I do not seek the crown of your approval. I seek instead the robe of your support, the staff of your guidance, and the heart of your love.”

Silence.

Their eyes widen, maybe in fear. Maybe in awakening. I brace for exile.
But maybe, just maybe– a straw pallet in a free place feels would give happiness than a velvet bed in a loveless castle.

Today, August 21, we commemorate Ninoy Aquino Day, a special non-working holiday under Republic Act No. 9492.

We remember the late senator Benigno “Ninoy” Aquino Jr., whose death on this day in 1983 ignited the people’s struggle against dictatorship. His sacrifice reminds us that democracy is not simply given but something that must always be defended and carried forward with courage.

As we commemorate his legacy today, may we continue to stand for truth, freedom, and justice, and remain steadfast in resisting oppression in all its forms.
