UP FLIPP

The U.P. Future Library and Information Professionals of the Philippines ( UP FLIPP), in its continuing mission to promote and develop the field of Library and Information Science (LIS) is embarking on a project entitled Libspeak 2012: Renew, Resonate, Realize, held last February 20, 2012 at UP Law Center Penthouse, Bocabo Hall, University of the Philippines Diliman, Quezon City.
This annual event serves the UP FLIPP’s mission to promote and uplift the field of Library and Information Science. It aims the students to enhance the perception of the general public to the profession of librarianship. Finally, it aspires to demonstrate the value of libraries and librarianship to society.
The program started at 8:00am with welcome remarks of Prof. Iyra S. Buenrostro Faculty Adviser, UP FLIPP followed by the Keynote address of Prof. Johann Frederick A. Cabbab, Dean, UP School of Library and Information Studies. Then the contest proper, such as Jr. LIS Wizard (Elimination Round), On-the-spot Essay and Poster Making Contest. Then a inspirational speech by Mr. Jose Mari Flores, Information Specialist, UP college of Engineering Library II, Ms. Marian S. Ramos, Head, General Reference Section, UP Main Library , Atty. Alex L. Lacson, Chairman Emeritus (counterpart by Ms. Joss Leano of KaBayanihan Foundation), Atty. Antonio M. Santos, Director, National Library of the Philippines, Ms. Melody M. Madrid, Librarian III, reference Division, Asia and Ocenia Section, national Library of the Philippines and a Closing Remarks of Mr. Jor-el E. Paragua, President, UP Future Library and Information Professionals of the Philippines.
The chosen students of Tinajeros National High School to participate, namely:
1.Danielle Dominique D. Deborde (IV-I) and Lou Angeline B. Llego (IV-I)
2.Mark Jayson Cuyos (IV-I) and Tessie Rose Colas (IV-I)
3.Mark Angelo Cibrian (IV-II) and Ma. Doelcarmen A. Dizon (IV-II)
The contestants accompanied by their trainer Mr. Amiel Gamara , English teacher, with the guidance of Mrs. Vivian Cruz, English Department Head, under the supervision of Dr. Ma. Victoria R. De Gulan, the school principal.
Indeed, the library is a vital component of realization of the empowerment and betterment of humanity. In summary, librarians must renew their own outlook of their proffesion through which they can resonate with their clientele and finally, go together with the community to realize their stake in the advancement and progress of society and the human condition.
