The index provides governments, businesses, investors and destination leaders with a framework to assess the factors and policies that support long-term tourism development.

The 2026 edition is the 10th edition of the WEF’s travel and tourism benchmarking series. It evaluates 17 pillars across five dimensions, covering areas such as business environment, safety, infrastructure, tourism resources, connectivity and sustainability.
