🛑FOR AWARENESS: EYES HERE!! JUST LOOK AT THE PATTERN. IN RED DOTS.
The image displays a map of the Philippines showing a major tectonic feature, the Philippine Trench, and several active fault lines running through the islands.
Philippine Trench: This is a submarine trench located east of the Philippines, in the western North Pacific Ocean. The trench is a result of the Philippine Sea Plate subducting beneath the Philippine Mobile Belt. It is approximately 1,320 kilometers long and reaches a maximum depth of 10,540 meters at its deepest point, the Emden Deep.
Philippine Fault Zone: The red lines visible on the map represent the Philippine Fault Zone (PFZ), a major tectonic feature that extends for about 1,200 kilometers across the archipelago. It is a left-lateral strike-slip fault system that accommodates the oblique motion of the subducting Philippine Sea plate. It extends from the Davao Gulf in the south, crosses Leyte and Masbate islands, and continues through Quezon province up to the Ilocos region in Luzon
The map also highlights various cities in the Visayas and Southern Luzon regions, which are located in proximity to these fault lines.
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) provides an online tool called Faultfinder that can be used to determine the location of active faults in an area.
