JUST IN: Newly installed DPWH Sec. Vince Dizon has requested for an Immigration Lookout Bulletin Order for several officials and contractors involved in substandard and ghost food control projects.

The first batch list includes the beleaguered Discaya couple---Cezarah and Pacifico---whose nine companies were able to secure contracts to 345 flood control projects from 2022 to 2025. According to the Philippine Center for Investigative Journalism, their companies bagged more than Php 31 billion from the government.

Dizon has previously ordered the courtesy resignations of all officials of the Department of Public Works and Highways from the national to the district levels.

The directive covered more than 250 officials---from all undersecretaries, assistant secretaries, division heads, regional directors, to district engineers nationwide.

Dizon has also ordered that all contractors proven guilty will be given a lifetime ban for government projects.

Several bighead carp were seen floating dead at the Lake Pinamaloy in Don Carlos last week, Aug. 26.

According to Provincial Fisheries Officer Gekie Sy, the 12 dead carp they caught had an average weight of 30 kilograms.

She added that they dissected one of them and sent lakewater samples to the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources central office in Manila.

In a Facebook post, Don Carlos mayor Ma. Victoria Pizarro confirmed samples were also sent to the Central Mindanao University College of Veterinary Medicine for thorough analysis.

“As the investigation is ongoing, the public is urged to refrain from spreading unverified information,” she said.

Sy said they just buried the carp they found and advised the public not to eat those they caught.

However, in one of the videos that went viral, residents who caught several carp could be heard talking about either frying or grilling them.

One of the three major lakes of the province, the guitar-shaped Lake Pinamaloy is considered “enchanted” by the locals. According to Sy, the 60-hectare lake was used to be managed by BFAR, which stocked it with fertilized carp eggs in 2018 to support local livelihood.

A year after that, the lake's management was transferred to the local government of Don Carlos.

Bighead carp is a good protein source but as it is considered an invasive species, it is mostly raised in fish pens and cages such as the case of Laguna de Bay. (with reports from Sean Sulugan)

A US national was arrested after two City Hall employees complained of unjust vexation, alarms and scandal on Friday, August 29.

Based on the report sent by PLtCol Joepet Paglinawan of the Malaybalay City Police, the 48-year-old American and his fiancée arrived at the Civil Registrar’s Office at 11:40 a.m. to request for a marriage license. The staff informed them that the City Mayor won't be available on their wedding date so it would either have to be postponed or they may choose another solemnizing officer.

The man from Mississippi, suspected to be drunk, allegedly “cursed at the staff and went berserk.” The female staff, 47, then told them to proceed to the City Treasurer’s Office to pay for the marriage license.

Upon arrival, the American reportedly cursed at another staff, 32, male, and created a disturbance before fleeing towards his fiancée’s house in Barangay San Jose.

The police immediately went on hot pursuit, which led to his arrest.
