Malolos Marine Fishery School and Laboratory (MMFSL) conducted an Anti-Drug Awareness Seminar for Grade 11 and Grade 12 learners with Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) and Division Office to strengthen their awareness about the dangers of illegal drugs and their rights and responsibilities under the law.
The seminar started with the opening remarks of Sir Remar T. Dela Cruz, Principal III, who expressed his gratitude to the speakers from the BJMP and the Division Office for sharing their knowledge with the students. He emphasized the importance of responsibility and good character among learners, saying: โHindi lang talino ang huhubog sa isang tao, ang pinakamahalaga sa lahat ay pagiging responsable at mabuting tao.โ
Moreover, when asked how the seminar could help the students of MMFSL: โYung seminar magandang pagkakataon para sa mag-aaral, para ma-reaffirm nila kung yung prinsipyo sa buhay; na tama pala yung ginagawa nila.
In attendance at this valuable event is the Public School District Supervisor of District 9, Sir Marco Rhonel M. Eusebio, PhD, CESE, to show how he truly values the Mariners.
Subsequently, Atty. Aiza Gail S. Mendiola, discussed the provisions of Republic Act No. 9165, also known as the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002. She explained the harmful effects of illegal drugs and highlighted the importance of prevention, rehabilitation, and the role of family and teachers in guiding students away from drug abuse. She also discussed the possible consequences for students who are caught possessing illegal drugs in school, including administrative penalties such as warnings or suspension, criminal penalties like rehabilitation, and other legal consequences.
When asked for advice for young women who might experience harassment, she stated: โPwede i-report sa teachers nila na nakaranas ang isang estudyante ng pambabastos para magkaroon ng report man lang o blotter entry. Ipapatawag yung student na involve para pag usapin sila, at kung sakaling repeated yung pamba-bastos sa kanya pwede yun sa Bawal Bastos Law.โ
Meanwhile, representatives from the BJMP Malolos City, led by JCINSP Mark Gerald C. Bautista, also shared important information about prohibited substances in school and their effects on health and behavior. JO1 Shintaro Cuizon, a nurse, introduced the difference between legal and illegal drugs and explained prohibited and regulated drugs. Other BJMP personnel who discussed different substances were JO2 Jocelyn C. Marquezo, who talked about ma*****na and co***ne, JO1 Jerlyn K. Langwawey, who discussed ecstasy, and JO1 Harold D. Manuel, who explained the effects of alcohol, ci******es, and vapes.
The BJMP team also conducted interactive activities with the students led by JO1 Emmanuel M. Manalangzl, including situational discussions and questions about their dream professions and desired future salary. Moreover, students actively participated in the activity together with role players such as policewoman, policeman, and businessman which helped learners understand the importance of making wise decisions in life.
When asked what advice they could give to young people who feel tempted to try illegal drugs, one of the speakers explained, โNormal naman yung temptation lalo na sa mga kabataan ngayon, nandyan yung peer pressure at nai-impluwensyahan ng mga kaibigan. Kaya mahalagang maghanap ng tamang alternatibo at magfocus sa kanilang mga pangarap, dahil ang simpleng pagsubok ay maaaring humantong sa mas malalim na problema.โ
JCINSP Mark Gerald C. Bautista ended the seminar with a strong reminder, โA simple spark can lead to a massive fire,โ encouraging learners to avoid even the smallest actions that could lead to harmful choices. Through this informative seminar, Grade 11 and Grade 12 learners of MMFSL gained valuable knowledge about drug awareness, legal responsibilities, and the importance of making responsible decisions for their life and future.
