LOOK | The College of Architecture and Fine Arts (CAFA) Local Student Council held an educational discussion titled “LIKHAIN: Upholding Human Craftsmanship Amid Artificial Intelligence Integration” at the Bulacan State University (BulSU) E-Library Smart Learning Room this Tuesday, January 13.
The event, attended by CAFA students, highlighted the ethical use of AI and the continuing importance of human creativity. Through expert discussions, the forum explored how AI can be responsibly integrated into creative disciplines and the enduring value of human craftsmanship.
The first speaker, Ar. Gabrielle Lois M. Benedictos, UAP, emphasized that reliance on AI becomes impractical in real-world architectural settings, particularly during on-site work where immediate decisions are required. “Hindi naman puwedeng sasabihin mo kay ChatGPT, ‘draft this for me,’” she said. Benedictos concluded by emphasizing that AI should only support — not dominate — creative work, with humans remaining the masters of design and AI as servants only.
Meanwhile, the second speaker, Mr. Kerwin Weepe, MFA, contrasted traditional textile production with AI-generated works. “Imagine these textiles. Matagal man siyang gawin compared sa AI na parang [in] two minutes, you can get a data or an artwork. But for these, kung maggagawa ka for 12 meters, parang they do it for six months,” he said, highlighting the irreplaceable uniqueness of handmade work and the central role of human skill in art.
