Looking back as this yearโs Pride Month ends and as a member of the LGBTQIA+ Community, Lady Gagaโs โBorn This Wayโ from 2011 is the epitome of a q***r icon song. A national anthem, if not yet, for those who are q***r. And for the right reasons.
Those three words, Born, This, and Way, managed to support generations and many more to come regarding their own sexuality. A song of self-acceptance, love, and being born this wayโyeah! I, a teen, was personally also affected by this songโespecially when Iโm at the time of accepting my sexuality.
Born This Way is one of those songs that defined generations of teenagers to come. You can walk up to anyone and ask to sing the song, and they will. And that is probably since the song does not limit those who may support and uplift the community. No matter gay, straight, bi, le***an, or transgender, you are born that way.
Every member of LGBTQIA+ Community has probably already heard the song. With those iconic beats and tunes, itโs a task to not sing or dance along. Itโs such a simple song with such consequential meaning and lyrics. Funnily enough, only three words are needed to outrage die-hard conservativesโlabelling Gaga as a satanic symbolโand uplift those closeted LGBTQIA+ members.
The song summarizes the whole experience of being a teen that is a part of the community. Itโs not a phase, not a lifestyle, not a disorder, and never an anomaly. Itโs me. Iโm a part of the community. And being born that way is what reassures me that Iโm not a problem that needs attention, Iโm Me that needs the appreciation everyone has. And for those that are still unsure of their gender, donโt shame yourself in regret. Be yourself and respect your youth.
Being born this way is a simple message to make us validate ourselvesโthatโs what made it a hit and q***r anthem in the first place, due to its simple delivery. To be constantly reminded of our worth is a good thing. But let us know that we donโt need to be reminded of our worth. Do not forget that no matter what they will say and no matter what they think, we are worthy of all the love in the world. Weโre not broken and we do not need any fixing.
Thereโs nothing wrong in loving who you are. โCause He made you perfect, babe!
