Mga Butil, the official school publication of Occidental Mindoro National High School, held a send-off program to 18 graduating and moving-up student journalists on 9:00 a.m., Friday, April 4 at the OMNHS Feeding Center. The program aimed to express appreciation and reward the journalists for keeping the years-long momentum of the publicationโs success in division and regional press conferences.
The program was organized by the school paper advisers and the non-graduating journalists. Coaches from various categories attended, Maโam Jessica S. Layug for Radio Broadcasting โ English, Maโam Ria Joy D. Adora for TV Broadcasting โ English, and Maโam Jovanni C. Mercado, Science and Technology Writing. Each coach also provided words of advice and shared success stories.
Each journalist was given a certificate highlighting their individual achievements and contribution to the publication.
A few graduating students shared their inspiring stories and words of encouragement to the younger journalists, namely Matt Reneil M. Navarro, Editor-in-Chief and Photojournalist; Jhe Ann I. Magpantay, Associate Editor and News Writer; Mikkah Shaleena V. Lastimoso, TV Scriptwriter and News Anchor; and Royce Rohan D. Driza, Layout Artist.
Maโam Richel Timbas, the school paper adviser in Filipino, ended the program with a reminder to everyone to maintain their unyielding passion and dedication to be the voice of truth, and live with the virtue of responsible journalism.
