According to reports from The Korea Times and The Korea Herald, South Korea's Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education is launching a real-life teacher protection system directly inspired by the hit Netflix K-drama Teach You a Lesson (adapted from the webtoon Get Schooled).
The public response has been massive. Over 1,800 people applied for just 50 part-time teacher rights protection officer positions, and education officials are now looking to double that initial intake. These officers will work alongside lawyers, doctors, counselors, and education officials to provide comprehensive legal, psychological, and administrative backing from the moment a complaint is filed until the case is resolved.
While the show's fictional Educational Rights Protection Bureau sparked the concept, officials emphasized that the real-world unit relies entirely on legal and administrative tools rather than the physical intervention seen on screen. The initiative aims to serve as a one-stop support system for educators, even as public debates continue over whether stronger legislative measures are still needed to properly safeguard teacher authority.
