The All-New MINI Cooper 5-Door Arrives in the Philippines: Urban Versatility Meets Iconic Style
Manila, Philippines – MINI Philippines launched the highly anticipated all-new MINI Cooper 5-Door at a stylish event held at the MINI Bonifacio Global City Showroom on February 5th. This latest iteration of the iconic MINI combines the brand's signature driving fun with increased practicality and distinctive design, making it a standout in its segment.

Exterior Design: A Modern Twist on a Classic
The 5-Door's proportions – short overhangs, a compact hood, a long wheelbase, and large wheels – emphasize its urban agility. Measuring 4,036 mm in length, 1,744 mm in width, and 1,464 mm in height, its dimensions are similar to its predecessor, maximizing interior space within a compact footprint. The 72mm longer wheelbase and 172mm longer body compared to the 3-Door translate to more comfort and room for all five passengers. Its compact size ensures easy maneuverability in tight city spaces.
The design maintains the classic MINI visual identity with its distinct three-part division: a clearly defined body, a wraparound window area, and a stepped roof. The minimalist front fascia features iconic round LED headlights (with three selectable light signatures) and an octagonal grille, creating the recognizable MINI "face." A welcome and goodbye animation enhances the visual experience.
The rear design is clean and modern, featuring flush-fitting LED taillights (also with customizable settings) and a striking black handle strip with model lettering. This horizontal element emphasizes the car's wide stance.
The Philippine market launch features the "Favoured Trim" as standard, adding Vibrant Silver accents to the front grille and other design elements. Larger diameter 18-inch two-tone slide spoke wheels further accentuate the car's presence.
Interior Design: Minimalist, Immersive, and Innovative
The interior design echoes the classic Mini's purist approach, featuring a central round instrument and the signature toggle switch strip. A standard head-up display keeps essential information within the driver's line of sight, eliminating the need for a traditional instrument panel.
Sustainable materials are used throughout the cabin, including knitted recycled polyester textiles on the dashboard and door panels. The minimalist design and ample space create a modern and airy feel. Standard John Cooper Works sports seats with high-quality fabric upholstery and comfortable rear seating for three passengers enhance the driving experience. The 60:40 folding rear seats expand cargo space from 275 liters to a maximum of 925 liters.
Technology and Features: A Revolution in User Experience
The centerpiece of the interior is the high-resolution OLED central display, now closer to the driver for easier access. Powered by the MINI Operating System 9, it offers intuitive control of all vehicle functions via touch or voice. The 240mm diameter display features smartphone-like operation.
Seven MINI Experience Modes allow drivers to customize the interior ambiance, projecting unique colors and patterns onto the dashboard via the MINI Projector. Personal Mode enables users to upload custom images via the MINI App, with the dominant colors reflected in the dashboard textiles and ambient lighting.
The redesigned rocker switch strip houses essential controls, including the parking brake, gear selector, start/stop button, Experience Mode selector, and volume control. Removing the gear selector creates additional storage space in the center console, including a wireless charging area for smartphones.
Driving Dynamics and Performance: Sporty and Comfortable
The MINI Cooper 5-Door's generous track width and wheelbase contribute to its dynamic handling. The suspension and damping system are tuned for spirited driving while maintaining everyday comfort. Precise steering and powerful brakes provide a confident driving experience. Specially tuned anti-roll bar mounts enhance body control and steering precision. The increased tire diameter and width (215mm on the 18-inch rims) further enhance driving dynamics and ride comfort, contributing to the signature MINI "go-kart" feeling.
"Hey MINI": The Intelligent Personal Assistant
The all-new MINI Cooper 5-Door introduces the brand’s first fully integrated voice assistant. Activated by saying “Hey MINI” or using the push-to-talk button on the steering wheel, the MINI Intelligent Personal Assistant allows voice control of navigation, phone, entertainment, and various vehicle functions. The assistant learns from repeated routes, enhancing convenience.
MINI Operating System 9: A Seamless Digital Experience
The MINI Operating System 9 features a redesigned user interface with a focus on intuitive interaction. The circular MINI Interaction Unit displays information clearly, with micro-animations enhancing the digital experience. The system is developed in-house by the BMW Group and offers a user experience similar to smartphones. The home menu provides quick access to navigation, media, phone, and climate control, while the status bar displays essential driving information.
