From LGBT Rights to Human Rights

📍 Soho House Bangkok
🗓 September 20, 2025 · 6–11 PM

Every September, we commemorate Dalagang Bukid (1919), the first Filipino film by José Nepomuceno—a reminder of where Philippine cinema began.

Carrying that legacy forward, tonight’s invitational screening features 13 short films in competition and a feature by Jay Altarejos, followed by conversations with Jay and Bangkok-based artists.

Also attending are Marco Bertillo-Mata (2076 Kolektib) and Pia Duran, filmmaker of Sama Bella, one of the competing films.

2076 Kolektib at NABIFILMEX 2025

This September, as the country marks the anniversary of Dalagang Bukid (1919)—the first Filipino film—we continue to question what it means to celebrate a “Film Industry Month” in a time when the industry itself feels fragile.

Still, cinema endures.

As part of Nabunturan Independent Film Exhibition (NABIFILMEX), our very own Jay Altarejos joins the festival as a jury member and presents a special screening of Guardia de Honor on September 18.

These activities form part of 2076 Kolektib’s continuing journey of bringing ALT-R HEROES and our films to diverse communities—from Bangkok to UP Film Institute, and now to Nabunturan.

Cinema travels. Stories connect. The struggle continues. ✊

🔥 Guardia de Honor is on the move.

As part of ALT-R HEROES 2025: Philippine Film Industry Celebration, we’re bringing the film to:
📍 Nabifilmex – Sept 18
📍 Soho House Bangkok – Sept 20
📍 Chulalongkorn University – Sept 22
📍 UP Film Center – Sept 29

Winning looks good on paper, but the real prize is facing audiences who watch, question, and connect. That’s the validation we’re after.

18 Years of Ang Lalake sa Parola

On September 3, 2007, Ang Lalake sa Parola premiered at the 1,000-seater Cine Adarna in UPFI—so full that the aisles became standing room only. Three weeks later, on September 26, the film screened nationwide at Robinsons Cinemas, achieving commercial success.

It should be remembered that UPFI has long been a sanctuary of independent films, and that Robinsons Malls were the first to open their doors to gay-themed films at the time—marking a turning point for q***r cinema’s presence in the mainstream.

This film also began Jay Altarejos’ journey as a leading voice in New Q***r Cinema in the Philippines, shaping a body of work that continues to challenge, provoke, and inspire.

This September, as we celebrate Philippine Film Industry Month—honoring the first Filipino film Dalagang Bukid (1919)—we look back at this seminal work that bridged the lighthouse and the cinema, the q***r heart and the nation’s screen.

From Dalagang Bukid to Parola, 105 years of Filipino cinema have carried our stories forward. Here’s to the next chapters we have yet to write.

Maria Clara turns into a rebel in Jay Altarejos’ Huwag Mo Akong Salingin

Thank you to Marinel Cruz and inquirer.net for featuring our special preview screening of the film. This piece reflects how history, literature, and feminist protest intersect in this bold cinematic reimagining of Rizal’s women.

Filmworkers of 2076KOLEKTIB

We started working in our film WALANG KASARIAN ANG DIGMANG BAYAN (The Revolution Knows no Gender) in 2019. Our first shooting day was on 30 June 2020 in Marikina City during the LGBTQIA+ Pride March. Our rag tag group was composed of Oliver Aquino, Hubert Tibi, Manual Garcellano, Jay Altarejos, Arnold Reyes. We covered the event and shot some scenes.

Then, we grew into a full production when the script had its shape already while at the Ricky Lee Film Script Writing Workshop. Other collaborators came in. And a lot of things happen.

We are finishing our film and at the same time still in production with NOMs (Nocturnals of Manila). NOMs mirrors the dystopian Philippines as it is today- before, during the lockdown of Metro Manila because of CoViD-19.

We are screenings our films, having live online discussions on immediate social and political issues, we empower others in anyway we can.
