Went to Baguio for a fam Christmas vacay. Super daming tao this season. Yes, traffic was crazy, but somehow it made everything feel more like Christmas. Bigla ka na lang mapapasabi ng, “Ah ang tagal, ah ang haba ng pila, ah ang traffic—Pasko kasi eh.” Thinking like that helped me stay positive. At the end of the day, as long as we’re with our loved ones, everywhere feels like Christmas. 🎄

RESTORE BATAD, RESTORE OUR HERITAGE

Our beloved Batad, home of the world-famous Batad Rice Terraces, has been severely affected by the recent storm uwan. Landslides and heavy rains have damaged our school grounds, classrooms, homes, and even portions of our treasured rice terraces the very heart of our culture and identity.

We humbly knock on your generous hearts.

Tested my 28-year-old body’s strength—with asthma on the side—to see if I could still do it. And yes, I did. 🥹 Ending this year by living a little. 🤍 A 12-hour trip and a 3-hour tour/hike were worth every hingal. 😅😭🥹

🍃Batad Rice Terraces, Banaue Ifugao🍃
The Batad rice terraces are a UNESCO World Heritage site in Ifugao, Philippines, known for their amphitheater-like structure and ancient, hand-carved design. These terraces are a testament to the Ifugao people's culture and engineering, built roughly 2,000 years ago and still maintained through a traditional irrigation system. Reaching them requires hiking, as they are not accessible by road, and visitors should be prepared for a trek, especially to get the best views.

Access: The terraces are reached by a hike from a drop-off point, such as Saddle Point, which is about a 20-minute downhill trek away.

Getting there: Visitors can take a bus or private vehicle to Banaue, then hire a tricycle or jeepney to get closer to Batad.

Best time to visit: The best views are reportedly in March or April, closer to harvest time. Visiting in early January may show mostly empty terraces as planting has just begun.

Costs: Be prepared for various fees, including a parking fee at Saddle Point and a local guide and environmental fee.

Hiking: Be cautious while hiking to avoid falls, especially on the steep and uneven paths.

Connectivity: There is no cell signal or Wi-Fi in the area.
