The striking festive design in sight
It mirrors culture, identity, and pride
A symbol that modernization wants to hide

Drivers wake up before dawn
To provide for their wives and spawn
They drive and drive and drive
Hoping that the money in their pockets thrive

At night, they lie down, tired
Hoping that tomorrow, there’s still a jeepney to drive
At dawn, a surprising news envelope their ears
It came—the moment they most fear

Drivers are forced to drive vehicles they can’t afford
To operate modern electric vehicles against their own accord
“Modernization is good,” they say on the news
Is it, really, when it compromises drivers who are bruised?

For many talented student-athletes, Palarong Pambansa is an opportunity to showcase their training and establish themselves as future national athletes. But what is blurred in those moments of national pride is an exploited sports sector that is left underfunded by the same government that praises it.

The government is quick to claim an athlete’s hard-earned glory but is slow to reimburse their training expenses. For politicians, the underfunding of national sports is an opportunity to redirect athletic victories for their own political capital without much cost.
