COMMUNITY TRANSMISSION OF FLU
The Philippine Society for Microbiology and Infectious Diseases (PSMID) reported a steady increase in influenza cases in Metro Manila from August to early October 2025, based on data from tertiary hospitals.
According to surveillance reports from the infection control committees from
various hospitals in Metro Manila, more than 6,000 flu tests were conducted during the period.
Positivity rates rose from 39% in August and September to 42% in October, indicating sustained community transmission.
“These high positivity rates point to ongoing community transmission and show that a substantial proportion of people tested were indeed infected with flu,” PSMID said in its report.
PSMID urged the public to follow preventive measures such as vaccination, regular handwashing, proper cough etiquette, and mask-wearing.
