Today, I received a call from one of my clients saying that one of my fellow Filipino VA will be removed from the team, and next week, I’ll be stepping in to support operations and train the new employee.
And honestly, news like this never gets easier.
This is the side of VA life that people rarely talk about.
There’s no real job security in freelancing.
Clients come and go.
Teams change.
Projects end unexpectedly.
One moment you’re working with someone every day, and the next thing you know, they’re gone.
As a fellow VA, it hurts every time I hear someone is being let go. I know most of us are not just working for ourselves. We’re supporting families, paying bills, and trying to build a better future.
I’ve been handling operations for a while now.
Hired people, trained teams, and unfortunately, I’ve had to let people go too.
And every single time, it affects me.
Because sometimes it doesn’t just feel like their loss, it feels like a failure on my part too.
You start asking yourself if you could’ve trained them better, supported them more, or done something differently.
But this industry teaches you one important lesson: adaptability is everything.
Skills can get you hired, but continuous learning, resilience, and professionalism are what help you survive in this industry. The online world moves fast, and we all have to keep growing with it.
To my fellow Filipino VAs: keep learning, keep improving, and keep showing up even when things get hard. One setback does not define your worth.
Freelancing is not always stable, but the strength we build through it is real.
Padayon.
