SONG OF THE WEEK (Sept. 07-13, 2025)
SongFacts:
🔸 "Victory Lap" is what happens when you mix pirate radio nostalgia, 2025 streetwear culture, a live-streamed beat session and a Doechii vocal sample. The genre-straddling single is a collaboration between Fred Again, grime legend Skepta, and New Jersey rapper/streamer PlaqueBoyMax.
The hook comes from Doechii's verse on her 2022 collab with Rico Nasty, "Swamp Bi***es" - a barbed, swagger-soaked performance that Fred Again flips into a call-to-arms.

Then Skepta enters, spitting over Fred's rugged, 2000s-inspired beats with the kind of gravel-toned clarity that made him a king of grime's first wave. His bars are full of bravado but laced with weariness. You don't get to do a victory lap without surviving the sprint.

🔸 "The Contract" is a moody, shape-shifting single released by Twenty One Pilots as the first offering from their eighth album, Breach. It's the continuation of a sprawling conceptual saga that has been quietly unspooling since 2015's Blurryface, and which fans thought had finally wrapped up with 2024's Clancy.

Except it hadn't. Clancy's final track, "Paladin Strait," ended not with closure but with a whispered "Hello, Clancy." "The Contract" picks up precisely at that unsettled moment, musically and thematically.

The song writhes with inner conflict. "I don't sleep much, that's crazy, how'd you know that?" sings frontman Tyler Joseph. The lyrics circle themes of broken promises, emotional burnout, and the disintegration of something once binding.
