A walkthroough Mt. Kapayas (also known as Torre or Lantawan Peak) is a prominent peak in Catmon, Cebu, standing at approximately 780 meters above sea level. It's renowned for its challenging terrain and panoramic 360-degree views, making it a favorite among seasoned hikers. Here's a comprehensive guide to help you plan your ascent:

🧭 Trail Overview
Difficulty: Challenging; suitable for experienced hikers.
Distance: Approximately 15.5 km (9.6 miles) round trip.
Estimated Duration: 5 to 6 hours.
Elevation Gain: About 900 meters.
Terrain: Steep inclines, mossy forests, rocky paths, and a final vertical rock climb to the summit. ​

📍 Getting There
From Cebu City:
Take a bus from the North Bus Terminal to Catmon (approximately 2 hours).
From Catmon, hire a habal-habal or multicab to Sitio Kampanya (around 1 hour). ​

Alternative Route:
Drive to Catmon Municipal Hall.
Proceed to Barangay Agsuwaw via a 4x4 vehicle.
From Agsuwaw, it's a 2-hour hike to Sitio Kampanya. ​

📝 Permits & Fees
Permit Fee: ₱250 per group (up to 10 people).
Guide Fee: ₱150 per person.
Campsite Fee: ₱20 per person.
Habal-Habal Fare: ₱450 per person (round trip, including side trip to Tinubdan Falls). ​

​Note: It's mandatory to secure permits and hire certified guides before the hike. ​

🧭 Trail Highlights
Sitio Lumanoy: The basecamp area, approximately an hour from the summit.
Rocky Ascent: Features a vertical rock climb near the peak.
Summit Views: Offers sweeping vistas of Catmon, Tañon Strait, and neighboring islands. ​

🌿 Responsible Hiking Tips
Adhere to the Leave No Trace (LNT) principles.
Bring sufficient water (at least 3 liters).
Wear appropriate hiking attire and sturdy shoes.
Carry sun protection and trail snacks.
Respect local wildlife and flora.​

🌊 Optional Side Trip: Tinubdan Falls
Located near the basecamp, Tinubdan Falls offers a refreshing dip after the hike.
Note: The falls were closed to the public following a tragic incident in 2021. ​

Mt. Kapayas, Catmon, Cebu

Also known as Lantawan Peak or Torre Peak, Catmon, Cebu, is one of the highest peaks in Cebu standing at about 780 meters above sea level (MASL). It is located in Catmon, Cebu and is popular destination for hikers and adventure seekers due to its challenging trail, rugged limestone formations, dense mossy forests and breathtaking views.

WHAT TO EXPECT:
1. Difficulty Level :Moderate to Challenging
2. Trail Type : Steep ascent, rocky terrain (some parts may require rope climbing), forested areas
3. Trek Duration : 3-4hours to the peak
4. Highlight : A stunning 360 view from the peak, cool mountain breeze with a peaceful atmosphere and the iconic limestone formations
5. Best time to Visit : Dry Season (Dec to May)

HOW TO GET THERE:
1. Permit and Guide:
- Secure Permit to Climb
- Registration is REQUIRED at the local Barangay Hall
- a guide is MANDATORY for safety purposes.

2. From Cebu City:
- Take a bus or van to Catmon (about 2-3hours) from North Bus Terminal
- Get Off the Municipal Hall of Catmon to Register and arrange for a guide and habal2x (motorbike) ride to the jump off point in Sitio Kampanya, Barangay Cabangkalan
- Start your trek to Mt. Kapayas

TIPS FOR HIKERS:
1. Bring enough water (at least 2L)
2. Wear proper and comfortable hiking shoes or sandals (some parts of the trail are rocky and steep)
3. Start early to avoid the heat
4. Expect no phone signals at some points.
5. Gloves and armsleeves can help protect you from sharp rocks and branches
6. LEAVE NO TRACE (LNT) - respect nature and take your trash with you

📍How to Get There:

- Take a bus from South Bus Terminal to Naga (1 hour, PHP 50-70).
- Hop on a habal-habal from Naga to the jump-off point (10-15 minutes, PHP 50).
- Alternatively, drive to Mt. Naupa via the coastal road for a scenic route thru Waze or Google Map😊.

📍Best Time to Visit:

- November to April is the best time to hike Mt. Naupa, with clear skies and comfortable temperatures.

📍Tips and Essentials:

- Entrance fee: PHP 25 per person.
- Guide fee: PHP 40 per group (optional).
- Camping gear and snacks are available for rent or purchase near the summit.
- Wear comfortable hiking shoes and bring plenty of water and sun protection
