It was such a lovely day and we were so happy to be there and be part of the celebration. 🇵🇭❤️🇬🇧

Seeing the colours, music, dancing and smiling faces throughout the grand parade was a wonderful reminder of how vibrant and welcoming our Filipino community is here in Cheshire.

A huge thank you to everyone who performed, volunteered and helped bring the event to life. It was a day filled with pride, friendship and community spirit, and we’re already looking forward to next year’s fiesta! 🥰🎉

🌈📚 Reading Together | National Year of Reading 2026

July is Pride Month in the UK, following Pride Month in the Philippines this June. It is a time to celebrate love, acceptance, and the belief that every child deserves to grow up feeling seen, valued, and loved for exactly who they are.

This week, we’re delighted to feature Kaloka Ka, Lolo! by Pepot Atienza, published by Lampara Books.

If you’re new to Filipino, here’s a little cultural insight. Lolo means Grandpa. Kaloka! is a uniquely Filipino expression that’s difficult to translate directly, but it’s often said with laughter and affection when someone is being delightfully funny, wonderfully eccentric, or unexpectedly outrageous. Depending on the moment, it can mean something like “You’re unbelievable!”, “You’re hilarious!”, “You’re such a character!”, or “You’ve really surprised me!”

Together, Kaloka Ka, Lolo! could be understood as “Grandpa, you’re unbelievable!” or “Grandpa, you’re so funny!” It’s a title full of warmth, humour, and affection that perfectly captures the playful relationship between a grandparent and grandchild.

Love this! 🎶📚 Music and stories are such a wonderful combination for sparking children’s imaginations.

If Sam and Sophie were joining the challenge, they’d probably choose a story full of music, dancing, laughter, and celebrating different cultures together. 💛 Our very first adventure even features the traditional Filipino bamboo dance, Tinikling, where every jump has to match the beat. It’s a lovely reminder that stories can get us moving just as much as they get us reading.

As a mum, children’s author, and an independent Usborne Partner, I’m always looking for books that help children fall in love with reading from an early age.

Today’s story is That’s Not My Unicorn… by Fiona Watt, illustrated by Rachel Wells and published by Usborne.

If you’ve ever read a “That’s Not My…” book, you’ll know why children keep coming back to them. The simple, repetitive text, bright illustrations and different textures make it a wonderful first book for babies and toddlers.

Reading doesn’t have to be long or complicated. Even just five minutes together, pointing, touching and talking about the pictures, helps build vocabulary, curiosity and a lifelong love of books.

As part of the National Year of Reading 2026, we’re sharing stories every Sunday to encourage families to make reading part of everyday life.

🌾 One of the Philippines’ most loved childhood songs is now today’s story!

Welcome back to Reading Together with Mango and Marmalade Stories. This week, we’re sharing Bahay Kubo, a delightful board book published by Adarna House.

For generations, Filipino children have grown up singing Bahay Kubo. More than just a nursery rhyme, it celebrates the beauty of a simple nipa hut surrounded by a garden full of vegetables. It reminds us that even the smallest home can be rich with nature’s gifts.

As we proudly support the National Year of Reading 2026, we’re introducing families across the UK to stories that celebrate cultures, traditions, and languages from around the world. Every story is an opportunity to spark curiosity and a lifelong love of reading.

⚽🎾 What a summer for sport!

First, we were all cheering England in the football. Now, we’re proudly watching a Filipina making history on one of the biggest stages in tennis.

Seeing Alexandra Eala shining at Wimbledon is such an inspiring moment. After an incredible run that included knocking out defending champion Iga Świątek, she’s showing the world what Filipino talent, determination, and heart can achieve. (Reuters⁠)

As a Filipino-British family, this is the kind of summer we love. Watching our children see heroes from both sides of their heritage doing amazing things is something really special.

Football. Tennis. Pride. History.

Here’s to dreaming big, working hard, and believing that anything is possible.

🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 It’s coming home… one match at a time!

What. A. Game.

England have beaten Mexico 3-2 in an unforgettable World Cup Round of 16 clash, holding on with 10 players in one of the toughest atmospheres in world football. The Three Lions showed grit, heart and plenty of belief to book their place in the quarter-finals. (The Guardian)

My toddler is now even more convinced England have already won the World Cup. 😂
