The heavier the rain, the faster the rainwater flows. As long as there’s a clear path for the rainwater to enter and exit, flash floods can be avoided. But if that pathway is blocked, not only does the water rise, stench and disease rise with it.
In recent heartbreaking news, families have been displaced, establishments have shut down, and vehicles have been damaged due to flash floods, costing thousands in repairs. These damages could have been avoided if only the drainage systems weren’t clogged by a single, persistent culprit: basura (trash).
The growing problem stems from a collective lack of discipline in proper waste disposal. That one plastic bottle you threw by the roadside for convenience may seem harmless, but when others follow that behavior, the problem grows. One act becomes many, and soon, the streets are littered with carelessness.
