As the month of March comes to an end, we must not forget that we have to celebrate all women and their contributions in our lives across the different aspects of time.
EQUILIBRIUM will be showcasing that despite Physics being a male-dominated field, WOMEN can still thrive and be successful in the field.
Let's take a short moment to have a glimpse on how women cemented themselves in Physics HERstory.
•MARIE CURIE¹
Marie Curie’s relentless resolve and insatiable curiosity made her an icon in the world of modern science. Indefatigable despite a career of physically demanding and ultimately fatal work, she discovered polonium and radium, championed the use of radiation in medicine and fundamentally changed our understanding of radioactivity.
•LISE MEITNER²
Lise Meitner helped discover the radioactive element protactinium, and was the first to describe and coin the term “nuclear fission” in a scientific paper. She was the first woman physics professor in Germany. Having overcome so many obstacles in life, Dr. Meitner actively supported women in science for the rest of her career. In 1997, element 109 was named in her honor: meitnerium.
•MARIA GOEPPERT MAYER³
In 1949 Maria Goeppert Mayer and Hans Jensen developed a model in which nucleons were distributed in shells with different energy levels. The model reflected observations of directions in which nucleons rotated around their own axes and around the center of the nucleus.
Therefore, let us take a note that there will be some people who will try to dominate you but you have that strong force to repel them. Enough energy to strive and reach for your goals with laws of nature and humanity as a guide to create equilibrium with all of the substances around you.
And always remember...
"Be the force that balances the scale."
