Total Eclipse ba kamo?

It's the Philippine's time to "shine" (pun intended) on April 20, 2042 as we will be smack in the center of a Total Solar Eclipse path.

Sana maabutan ko pa ito. Parserve na ba ng Plane/Bus Ticket at Hotel sa dadaanan ng eclipse? Hahaha!!!

When eating dinner in Baguio, one must remember that you are in the province. Hence, most establishments close earlier that you might probably been accustomed to. Majority would close by 8pm. Luckily, Craft 1945 closes much later. On thuis day, it was 10pm.

Waze or Google Maps navigation would be needed as you might miss the ramp going up the place. As with many places in Baguio, this one has a steep ramp with curve right before you land on the main deck. But don't worry, most cars. An easily handle this. Parking would also be a bit tricky and limited so better plan your dining experience outside of the peak hours.

The place has two levels but if you want to a more spacious area, better ambiance, and listen to some band while dining, then the second floor is a must.

As the name of the place suggest, they offer a variety of Craft Beers. As there is a number of them on the menu, they offer free beer tasting so you would be able to order the best one for your palate. Their menu indicates their beer's Alcohol By Volume and IBU Rating (bitterness scale) so you would have an idea outright.

As for food, they offer a wide variety but I ordered their steak. I have always been adamant in ordering Medium Rare as many restaurants do not get it well, but Craft 1945 does it excellently!

They also offer you a complementary bowl of small pandesals while you wait. Don't let their size fool you, they do taste great.

If there is one thing I did not like was the delay between ordering and the order arriving since they have to go down to the ground floor before they can serve you the item. As was the case with the craft beers I ordered. I seated myself right beside the bar but it seemed to take eons for them to bring it. It wasn't that long but indeed there was a delay.

Over-all, I liked my dining experience at Craft 1945 and will dine again here when I return to Baguio.

SotoGrande Hotel Baguio is perhaps one of the newer hotels in Baguio. That being said, it means that it is located a few kilometers from the city center. The location is both a hit and a miss depending on your intention. Personally, I like it. Being far from the center means it has more land to work with. As such, rooms are bigger than the older buildings around Burnham Park. It is either a redevelopment of what was initially intended as a 2-Tower Condo complex, or was intentionally done as such. With that, interiors of the room resembles studio type condos with cabinets replacing where the kitchens would have been.

Rooms, as mentioned are bigger and you get a balcony. If you can, I suggest you request a room facing the mountains rather than Tower 2. Surprisingly, toilet has a tub but it is not really intended for a comfortable soak. But it will suffice if you are a vertically-challenged person. Power outlets are numerous. Two between the beds and about 2 more at the working table. These are of the universal type plus it also has USB, VGA, and HDMI connections. If they are working or not, I did not get to test.

Breakfast is okay but not that great. Choices varied only for two days. On my third breakfast, it was exactly the same as on my first day. Choices are typical Filipino breakfast of tapa, tocino, tinapa, daing, dilis, etc. Soups are variations of arrozclado, champorado, and ube champorado. They also serve Strawberry Taho. Dinning area is rather big already but they also setup tables outside for a more refreshing and cooler breakast experience.

It also has a spacious lobby with a bar at the side so groups have enough space to work with without bothering other guests.

Parking, parking, parking. This is probably the best feature of this hotel. It has a huge basement parking that never did get full when I was there. Compared to other others who have limited parking space or have large parking but placed outside, here you have peace of mind that you will have a slot and that your vehicles are safe and secure.

Internet is also fast. It reached 70mbps download and 30mbps upload during my testing. Sadly, both Globe and Smart struggle to reach my phone.

Service is bad for me. If you do not put the "clean my room" sign they will never enter the room, which is a plus for safety. However, this also meant that they will not refill your consummables such as water, coffee, soap, shampoo, etc. I tried calling the lobby but they never answered.

Location is almost in front of Teachers Camp's main gate. This is along Leonard Wood where if I am mot mistaken at least three jeepney routes (Tiptop, Maria Basa, Minesview) pass through the area. Taxis are also common. So leaving the car in the parking and commuting to the city center can definitely be an option to save you the trouble with traffic and difficulty in finding parking. Walking is also an option for the more adventurous ones.

Overall, I liked my stay here and will be one of my top choices whenever I go to Baguio in the future.

SWSR Resort.

They are not kidding when they placed the word Retreat in their name. This place can be a refuge for those who seek peace and quiet. There are limited rooms and the beach is secluded. Vacant lots separate them from other resorts which are also not that full of people. Perhaps because only crazy people like us go to the beach on a cold January.

Transient House option of SWSR in Cabangan, Zambales. This is right beside SWSR and is also managed by the resort. As such, you will be treated as a guest of the resort. It is more peaceful here and if you rent the two rooms, you will have the entire compound by yourself. You can also cook your food here but for an extra but minimal fee.
