Islam does not make a daughter-in-law the servant of her husband's parents or relatives. Serving in-laws can be a beautiful act of ihsฤn (kindness) when done willingly, but it should not become an entitlement imposed upon her.

Likewise, a husband should not expect his wife to serve his family while he expects to be treated with honor by hers.

Allah says:
โ€œAnd live with them in kindness.โ€ โ€” Qur'an 4:19

And Allah describes marriage as a relationship of tranquility, affection, and mercy (Qur'an 30:21).

The Prophet ๏ทบ also said:
โ€œThe best of you are those who are best to their families.โ€ โ€” Jฤmiสฟ al-Tirmidhฤซ

So when a woman visits her in-laws, she should be welcomed as family, not evaluated as a potential maid. And when a man visits his wife's family, he too should show humility, respect, and gratitude not expect special treatment simply because he is the husband.

Islam does not teach: โ€œWhat can my daughter-in-law do for us?โ€ It teaches: โ€œHow can we treat one another with kindness, dignity, and mercy?โ€

Marriage joins two families; it does not turn one spouse into a servant of the other spouse's family. โ™ฅ๏ธ
