Singkaban Festival 2026 engrandeng selebrasyon ng sayaw at kultura sa Malolos Bulacan

Inorganisa ng Provincial History, Arts, Culture and Tourism (PHATO) ang taunang selebrasyon na maghahatid ng kahanga-hangang pagsasalaysay ng kasaysayan sa pamamagitan ng makukulay na kasuotan at mahuhusay na kumpas ng sayaw.

Huhusgahan ang mga kalahok batay sa kanilang showdown, koreograpiya, pagtatanghal at tema o konsepto, kasuotan na may malikhaing desinyo, kulay at epektibong pag gamit ng costume at street dancing na may consistency sa pagsasayaw, lakas ng pagtatanghal at galaw.

Mauuwi sa mga magwawagi ang tropeo at perang papremyo na P130, 000 para sa unang pwesto, P90, 000 naman para sa ikalawang pwesto, P70, 000 sa ikatlong pwesto, P25, 000 para sa tatlong consolation prizes at P20, 000 sa bawat isa para sa best in street dancing at best in costume.

Ayon kay Malolos Bulacan Governor Daniel R. Fernando ngayong taon ay binigyang diin na ang tampok na kaganapang ito ay higit pa sa paligsahan sa pagsasayaw na isa itong buhay na pagdiriwang ng kultura at kasaysayan ng Bulacan sa pamamagitan ng galaw at musika.

Dagdag pa niya na sa bawat hakbang at indayog ng ating mga mananayaw buhay na buhay ang pagmamahal ng mga Bulakenyo sa ating kultura, sining at kasaysayan. Shira admits she felt intimidated by award-winning veteran co-stars

Pangwalong pelikula na ni Shira Tweg ang suspense thriller na "Mantsa" na idinirehe ng award-winning director na si Louie Ignacio.
Aniya, kakaiba raw ang role niya sa nasabing movie na iprinudyus ng Dragon Entertainment Productions.
"It's really different. Kadalasan po kasi, ang mga natotoka sa aking roles ay iyong sweet girl, iyong pabebe pero this time it's really different. It's a departure from the roles that I've done in the past, so iyon po ang dapat abangan," aniya.
Proud din siya na maging bahagi ng isang makabuluhang pelikulang may layuning magbigay ng aral sa mga manonood.
"It's actually an advocacy film that tackles a timely theme about mental health. For everyone to be aware of mental health. Everything naman talaga starts sa mga nag-alaga sa iyo, sa mga nagpalaki sa iyo, sa family,"bulalas niya. " So, I'm really excited na mai-share siya kasi may aral siya at hindi lang siya basta suspense, " dugtong niya.
Ani Shira, malaking hamon din daw sa kanya ang gampanan ang role ni Regina, isang witness sa gruesome murder.
First time rin daw niyang makatrabaho ang mga batikang actress na sina Pilar Pilapil at Gelli De Belen sa nabanggit na pelikula.
Pagbabahagi pa niya, na-intimidate raw siya nang malamang makaka-work niya ang dalawa.
"Kinabahan po talaga ako lalo na noong malaman kong makaka-eksena ko si Tita Pilar. Si Direk Louie nga po, nananakot pa na strict nga raw po si Tita Pilar. Tapos, si Ms.Gelli, she's also an award-winning actress,so kinabahan talaga ako,"lahad niya.
Gayunpaman, thankful daw siya na sobrang supportive ng co-actors niya.
"Si Tita Pilar, inalalayan niya ako kung paano namin gagawin iyong eksena.Sobra po akong grateful sa kanya. At kay Ms. Gelli, sobra po akong mag-enjoy na katrabaho sila," bulalas niya.
Ang "Mantsa" ay tumatalakay sa pamilya, pagkakaibigan at relasyon.
Ayon nga sa producer na si Bambbi Fuentes, layunin niyang maging game-changer ang obrang ito ni Direk Louie.
"It is called Mantsa, stain… so when you see mantsa ano ang naiisip ninyo? Yeah, dirty… so, panoorin ninyo kasi maraming twist and angles and plots ‘yung pelikula. Na, I made it a point na, kasi pang bata ito, pang-Gen Z din and at the same time ay pang-icon din kasi nandiyan sina Gelli, Tita Pilar, Snooky,"paliwanag niya.
Naniniwala naman ang co-producer na si Tine Ar**la na tatangkilikin ng masa ang kanilang pelikula.
"We have a good quality movie to offer. More than the film, may makabuluhang mensahe rin ang Mantsa,"ani Tine.
Sa kabila ng katapat na foreign films, solido rin ang paniniwala niya sa talento ng mga Pinoy.
"Basta laban lang.We believe in the limitless potential of our Pinoy talents,"pagtatapos niya.
Bukod kay Pilar, kasama sa powerhouse cast sina Snooky Serna, Janice De Belen, at Gelli De Belen.

Ang pelikula ay mula sa panulat ni Krista Ann Taclan – Fuchs mula sa orihinal na kuwento ni Bambbi Fuentes.
Katulong naman sa produksyon sina T.M. Malones bilang cinematographer, Dennis C. Evangelista bilang line producer at Rosswil Hilario bilang assistant director. Co-producer naman si Apeng Valenzuela, with Bambbi Fuentes at Tine Ar**la as supervising and executive producers.

When Faith Turns Fearful: Viva Films’ “Rosario” Brings Filipino Folklore to Life

A forgotten funeral ritual. A deadly curse. A family haunted by its darkest secrets.
Viva Films’ newest horror offering, “Rosario,” brings an old Filipino superstition to life as it opens in cinemas nationwide on Aug. 5.
Written and directed by Roni Benaid, the film revolves around a chilling belief: a rosary placed inside a coffin must be cut before burial. Failure to do so, according to folklore, could unleash a curse that follows the family left behind.
The story centers on Beth (Aubrey Caraan), who returns home after her mother’s death and reunites with her estranged sister Ave (Yumi Garcia). But as relatives gather to mourn, a forgotten ritual awakens terrifying forces, pushing the siblings to confront not only a supernatural threat but also the secrets buried within their family.
The cast includes Lance Carr as Caleb, Beth’s former lover; Meg Imperial as Magda; Jairus Aquino as James; Suzette Ranillo as Aunt Anne; Bernadette Allyson; and Rose Van Ginkel as Rosario.
Benaid said the idea came from childhood memories of his mother’s devotion to the rosary.
“What if this rosary brought something else to a family?” he recalled asking himself—a question that eventually gave birth to the story of “Rosario.”
Known for horror films like “Mary Cherry Chua,” “Marita,” and “Nanay, Tatay,” Benaid said his love for the genre began with the fear he felt watching horror movies as a child.
Van Ginkel, who plays the titular character, also revealed her personal connection to the role, noting that her real name is Rosalie.
“This is already my fifth horror project. In four of them, I was the ghost,” she joked, adding that horror roles require both emotional intensity and spiritual preparation.
For Caraan, the biggest challenge was keeping the fear and emotion alive through demanding scenes and repeated takes. Carr, meanwhile, prepared for his first horror role by studying the genre through films.
With Filipino audiences known for their love of horror, the team behind “Rosario” hopes to deliver more than scares—a haunting story about family, faith, and the consequences of forgotten traditions.

Cinemalaya 22 Opening and Closing Films Reflect the Diversity of Filipino Experiences

For its 22nd edition, the Cinemalaya Philippine Independent Film Festival opens and closes with two internationally acclaimed independent films that reflect the complexity of Filipino experience: the opening film, Enjoy Your Stay, explores a mother's enduring love for her daughter, while the closing film, Filipiñana, follows a teenage girl whose job at a country club leads to unexpected discoveries.
Opening Film
Directed by Dominik Locher and Honee Alipio and co-produced by Close Up Films and JBA Production, Enjoy Your Stay follows Luz, a Filipina who has spent years working as an undocumented cleaner in Switzerland. Living in the shadows alongside her friend Aileen and other Filipina migrant workers, she constantly faces the threat of being discovered and deported.
When she sees her ex-husband appear on a Filipino reality TV show with their six-year-old daughter, Luz’s life is shaken. In desperation to keep her child after years of working abroad, she promises on live television to return home in time for her daughter's birthday.
Looking at her savings and her ballooning debts, will she be able to secure her daughter's future? Racing against time, Luz is forced to find ways to earn money even if it means betraying her community and crossing her own moral boundaries.
Actress Mercedes Cabral headlines Enjoy Your Stay, alongside acclaimed Filipino actresses Anna Luna, Hasmine Killip, Irma Adlawan, Donna Cariaga, and Madeleine Nicolas.
Enjoy Your Stay had its world premiere in the Panorama section of the 76th Berlin International Film Festival in Germany on February 14, 2026.
The opening film will be screened free to the public on August 6 (Thursday), at 7:30 p.m. at Red Carpet Cinemas 1 and 2, Shangri-La Plaza.
Closing Film
Filipiñana tells the story of Isabel, played by Jorrybell Agoto, a teenage employee at an exclusive country club who finds herself drawn to its president, Dr. Palanca, played by Teroy Guzman. But as Isabel begins to uncover the violence hidden beneath the country club’s pristine facade, she realizes that what started as an innocent infatuation is rooted in a far more sinister shared history.
Directed by Rafael Manuel, Filipiñana is a feature-length expansion of his acclaimed 2020 short film of the same title. The film had its world premiere in the World Cinema Dramatic Competition at the 2026 Sundance Film Festival in January 2026.
As the closing film of the 22nd Cinemalaya Independent Film Festival, Filipiñana will be screened on August 16, 2026, at 8:30 p.m. at Red Carpet Cinemas 1 and 2, Shangri-La Plaza. Tickets are priced at ₱350 for regular admission and ₱250 for students.
Reel Reflections
Anchored on the theme “Cinemalaya 22: Reel Reflections,” the festival's opening and closing films embody the spirit of this year’s edition by telling stories that reflect the realities, struggles, and triumphs of women and the communities they belong to.

For 22 years, the Cinemalaya Philippine Independent Film Festival has championed fearless storytelling and nurtured generations of Filipino filmmakers whose works challenge, inspire, and provoke meaningful conversations. This year, the country’s premier independent film festival
returns with a longer run, from August 6 to 18, inviting audiences to embark on a journey of introspection through films that illuminate the many facets of the human condition.
Anchored on the theme Cinemalaya 22: Reel Reflections, the festival explores cinema as a mirror that reflects the realities, aspirations, struggles, and triumphs that shape the Filipino experience.
Through stories rooted in authenticity and artistic vision, Cinemalaya reaffirms the
transformative power of independent film to deepen our understanding of ourselves and of one another.
Leading this year’s competition are nine (9) full-length and ten (10) short films that offer distinct yet interconnected reflections on identity, family, memory, resilience, justice, love, and the
complexities of contemporary life.

The Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) and the Cinemalaya Foundation, Inc. bring the festival once again to Red Carpet Cinemas at Shangri-La Plaza as its primary venue. Continuing its long-standing support that spans for more than two decades, Ayala Malls remains a partner venue for Cinemalaya 22. Gateway Cineplex also returns this year, completing the roster of venues, widening the festival’s reach and allowing even more audiences to experience the richness and diversity of contemporary Philippine independent cinema.
Running concurrently with the festival is the 38th Gawad CCP Para sa Alternatibong Pelikula at Video, the Southeast Asia’s longest-running independent film competition. Showcasing works across Short Feature/Narrative, Experimental, Documentary, and Animation, the competition continues to champion alternative forms of cinema and provide emerging filmmakers with a platform to push creative boundaries.
More than a showcase of exceptional films, Cinemalaya remains a movement that celebrates the courage to tell stories that matter. For over two decades, it has empowered filmmakers to examine the realities of Filipino life through fresh perspectives and uncompromising artistic
integrity, cultivating a cinematic landscape where diverse voices can thrive.
Since its inception in 2005, Cinemalaya has supported the production and exhibition of Filipino full-length and short independent films, many of which have garnered recognition at prestigious
local and international festivals. Through the annual festival, Cinemalaya has presented more than 1,000 works – including feature films, shorts, documentaries, restored Filipino classics, and Asian films, cementing its role as one of the country's most influential cultural institutions and a driving force in Philippine independent cinema.
As Cinemalaya 22: Reel Reflections unfolds, audiences are invited not only to watch the films, but to see themselves in the stories they tell and discover what lies beneath the surface of their own reflections.

Cinemalaya 22 celebrates reel stories about the ultimate Pinoy experience

For 22 years, the Cinemalaya Philippine Independent Film Festival has championed fearless storytelling and nurtured generations of Filipino filmmakers whose works challenge, inspire, and provoke meaningful conversations. This year, the country’s premier independent film festival
returns with a longer run, from August 6 to 18, inviting audiences to embark on a journey of introspection through films that illuminate the many facets of the human condition.
Anchored on the theme Cinemalaya 22: Reel Reflections, the festival explores cinema as a mirror that reflects the realities, aspirations, struggles, and triumphs that shape the Filipino experience.
Through stories rooted in authenticity and artistic vision, Cinemalaya reaffirms the
transformative power of independent film to deepen our understanding of ourselves and of one another.
Leading this year’s competition are nine (9) full-length and ten (10) short films that offer distinct yet interconnected reflections on identity, family, memory, resilience, justice, love, and the
complexities of contemporary life.
