We chase a lot of things in life—success, security, recognition. And in many ways, that’s normal. God made us to work, to build, and to grow. But in Mark 8:36, Jesus gives us a sobering reminder: “What does it profit a man to gain the whole world, yet forfeit his soul?” It’s a question that stops us in our tracks. Because if we lose our soul in the process, all the world’s wealth, fame, or power won’t matter. It’s not that those things are always bad—but they can never take the place of Christ.

This verse pushes us to think eternally. Life is short. Eternity is not. Every choice we make today either draws us closer to God or further away. So the question we need to ask isn't just, “Am I succeeding?”—but, “Am I surrendering to Christ?” A rich life is not about what’s in your hands, but who rules your heart. Let this verse remind you: nothing in this world is worth trading your soul for. Jesus is better. Always.
