Nielson Field was an airport in the Philippines. It was Asia's first airport. It opened in 1937. It was set up by Laurie Reuben Nielson, a New Zealander. It was converted into a military airbase during World War II.

It was built on 42 hectares of swampland. In 1948, it stopped operating and was converted into a business district. Its runways became the main avenues. Its radio or control tower is still standing as a museum. Today this district is the Ayala triangle in Makati City and home to the famous Blackbird at Nielson Tower.

SMC removes over 1.3M tons of waste from Pasig River, eyes completion of P2-B cleanup by next month.

Nearly two years since it launched its ambitious, P2-billion Pasig River cleanup initiative, San Miguel Corporation (SMC) reported that it breached the 1-million metric ton mark of silt and solid waste removed from the historic but polluted waterway, adding it is optimistic the project can be fully completed by August, or right in the middle of the rainy season.

The Philippines is the first ASEAN Member State (AMS) to build a nuclear power plant.

In response to the oil crisis in 1973, the Philippines decided to build the Bataan Nuclear Power Plant (BNPP). The Bataan Nuclear Power Plant (BNPP) sits on a 389-hectare protected land at Napot Point, a peninsula in the west coast of Morong, Bataan, at the Luzon island. Had the plant been operational, its 623 MW electrical capacity could have provided at least 10% of the present power requirements for the Luzon grid. It took almost 8 years to construct, but then it has been on preservation mode since 1986 at a cost of PHP 40 to PHP 50 million (or US$1 million) a year for the maintenance.

The construction of the 54.6-kilometer (km) Blumentritt-Calamba section of the North-South Commuter Railway connecting Metro Manila and Calamba, located in Laguna Province around 50 km south of Manila.

The Project will provide improved connectivity in the public transport network by connecting with all existing LRT/MRT-lines in Metro Manila. It includes a connecting line to the planned Metro Manila Subway, which will improve connectivity by operating direct trains for passengers travelling from Calamba to Bonifacio Global City, Ortigas and Quezon City along the Metro Manila Subway.

The new railway line will provide affordable, reliable and safe public transport, reduce greenhouse gas emissions and cut the journey time by half to less than one hour.

The project will be cofinanced by Japan International Cooperation Agency and Asia Development Bank.

Billionaire Ramon Ang promise a racetrack beside the new airport in Bulacan.

“There’s going to be a three-and-a-half-kilometer racetrack, a car park and a garage for all car owners,” he said. “You can buy a car, keep it there, and drive it around.”

Ang said the decision to build a car was driven (so to speak) by the lack of nice roads to drive nice cars and the traffic situation in Manila.

“Right now, kunyari you have a car, you can’t enjoy it,” he said. “Where are you going to drive it with all the traffic? You can drive it in the highways, and you may be a good driver, but the other small cars might suddenly stop and kill you.

“But if you have a nice racetrack in a nice new city, people will enjoy,” he added.

In late August, Slater Young’s recent project The Rise at Monterrazas became the subject of heated debate online. Helmed by the civil engineer and content creator with his team, the project is set to be built on the mountainside, which has caused concerns among netizens due to its possible environmental consequences.

The condominium in question spotlights luxury living atop its location, dubbed as an “architectural landmark” for its Rice Terraces-inspired structure with expansive views of Cebu City. With only 146 units available, The Rise at Monterrazas is posed to be limited to a few potential owners.

Situated in Guadalupe, Cebu City near the Monterrazas de Cebu, The Rise at Monterrazas is designed to be a high-end condominium that draws aesthetic inspiration from the Banaue Rice Terraces. According to Slater, he and his team have gone through around 300 different versions of the project to help minimize its environmental impact.

Currently listed as sold out, the property’s two-bedroom unit ranges from 179 to 272 square meters for its total indoor and outdoor floor area. Aside from the bedrooms, this consists of spaces including the main kitchen, utility or a maid’s room, and an outdoor deck or garden.

The construction of both CBEX (Cavite-Batangas Expressway) and NBEX (Nasugbu-Bauan Expressway) has been signed and sealed. A partnership between two giants, Manuel “Manny” V. Pangilinan (MVP) of MPTC and Ramon S. Ang (RSA) of San Miguel Corporation was officially inked and with it, the joint project is officially a “go”. What’s in store for us when these two new expressways are completed?

The result of the MOA will lead to the creation of the 87.96-kilometer Cavite-Batangas Expressway (CBEX) and the Nasugbu-Bauan Expressway (NBEX). The project aims to connect MPTC’s Cavite-Laguna Expressway (CALAX) to Bauan, Batangas and is seen to result in easier and more convenient travel for motorists in the South.

The Time Sculpture by Filipino-American public artist Jefre Manuel Figueras, simply known as JEFRË.

The Time Sculpture in front of SM Megamall depicts a man looking at his watch, which JEFRË wants to be a reminder to people that time is valuable. Even when stuck in traffic, people should learn how to respect the idea of time by using it productively.
