| πππ¬π π: The PUP Commission on Elections (PUP COMELEC), through Resolution No. 008 Series of 2025 released last October 11, has formally acknowledged the withdrawal of candidacies of Lex Villanueva and Marc Henry But for this yearβs Student Council Elections (SCE).
This comes after both candidates reportedly received an email from an unknown sender containing serious threats, which prompted them to withdraw their candidacies for safety reasons.
Villanueva was running for Open University System (OUS) President, while But was vying for a Sentral na Konseho ng Mag-aaral (SKM) Councilor position, both as independent candidates.
In an official statement released on October 8, the PUP SC COMELEC clarified that initial actions and investigative steps were already undertaken following the report of the threat, and also emphasized its commitment to ensure a safe, fair, and transparent election process across all student council levels.
As a follow-up development, a statement issued on October 10 said that the Commission had formally requested assistance from the PUP Information and Communications Technology Office (ICTO) to help trace the source of the anonymous threats sent to candidatesβ personal emails. The ICTO assured the Commission that it would exhaust all possible means to aid in resolving the matter.
Meanwhile, the resolution further orders that all information collected from the said candidates be deleted from the PUP COMELECβs database.
