| π—œπ—–π—¬π— π—œ: The PUP Commission on Elections (PUP COMELEC), through Resolution No. 008 Series of 2025 released last October 11, has formally acknowledged the withdrawal of candidacies of Lex Villanueva and Marc Henry But for this year’s Student Council Elections (SCE).

This comes after both candidates reportedly received an email from an unknown sender containing serious threats, which prompted them to withdraw their candidacies for safety reasons.

Villanueva was running for Open University System (OUS) President, while But was vying for a Sentral na Konseho ng Mag-aaral (SKM) Councilor position, both as independent candidates.

In an official statement released on October 8, the PUP SC COMELEC clarified that initial actions and investigative steps were already undertaken following the report of the threat, and also emphasized its commitment to ensure a safe, fair, and transparent election process across all student council levels.

As a follow-up development, a statement issued on October 10 said that the Commission had formally requested assistance from the PUP Information and Communications Technology Office (ICTO) to help trace the source of the anonymous threats sent to candidates’ personal emails. The ICTO assured the Commission that it would exhaust all possible means to aid in resolving the matter.

Meanwhile, the resolution further orders that all information collected from the said candidates be deleted from the PUP COMELEC’s database.

π—œπ—–π—¬π— π—œ | The PUP Student Council Assembly (SCA), through Resolution No. 15, Series of A.Y. 2024-2025, released on October 14, has approved the motion to impeach PUP SC COMELEC Open University System (OUS) Commissioner Lacherly Be. May-Anne Ramel over gross neglect of duty, habitual absences, and continued failure to perform her official functions.

Ramel had been issued a warning letter on September 8 but failed to provide any explanation or response. She also remained inactive during vital meetings, electoral activities, and commission deliberations, "significantly hampering" the Commission's operations and efficiency.

The resolution also declares that the position of OUS Commissioner is vacant and authorizes the PUP SC COMELEC to proceed with the appointment or selection of a new commissioner pursuant to the Election Code.

π—”π—Ÿπ—˜π—₯𝗧 | The Philippine National Policeβ€”Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (PNP-CIDG) visited the old address of PUP Sentral na Konseho ng Mag-aaral (SKM) President Tiffany Faith Brillante last Friday, October 10, asking about her whereabouts.

The PNP-CIDG, while looking for Brillante, also showed photos to the barangay of students taken at various mobilizations.

After the barangay confirmed that she no longer resides there, the police asked for a certificate of non-residency and vowed to find her even at her new address.

Brillante was the second PUPian this week who was visited by operatives of the PNP-CIDG.

Meanwhile, Jacob Baluyot's address was once again visited by the PNP-CIDG yesterday, October 11.

They reportedly spoke with the barangay chairman, asking to locate Baluyot to discuss the issued subpoena, even though Baluyot had already submitted a response letter.

π—”π—Ÿπ—˜π—₯𝗧 | Two unidentified intel personnel were caught taking pictures of students and activists yesterday, October 10, during the PUP System-Wide Walkout Against Corruption.

The agents were found unlawfully infiltrating the University premises without official records in the Visitors’ Lounge and using personal information inconsistent with their identification cards, according to PUP CPSPA Councilor Wellyssa Torne.

The illegally obtained photos have been deleted; however, Torne said they may have already been disseminated to other parties. PUP students are advised to report if they spot the intel personnel inside or outside the campus.

The PUP community denounced the long-standing corruption in the government and echoed calls for a budget increase for the university.

π—Ÿπ—’π—’π—ž | PUP student journalist Jacob Baluyot has declined to appear before the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) after being subpoenaed in connection with the September 21 β€œTrillion Peso March” protest in Mendiola.

In his response dated today, October 10, Baluyot addressed the CIDG Acting Director, denying allegations that he was among the "leaders of the organizations allegedly involved” in violent incidents during the protest. He clarified that his attendance at the event was solely in his capacity as a campus journalist covering for reportage.

Upon legal advice, Baluyot invoked his constitutional rights under Article III, Section 12 of the 1987 Philippine Constitution, citing the right to remain silent, the right against self-incrimination, the right to due process, and his rights as a member of the press.

He emphasized that his non-appearance was not meant to disrespect the CIDG’s investigative process but was a necessary step to protect his rights under the law.
