The College of Public Health celebrates PH month with its signature 5 𝐃𝐚𝐲𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐇𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬, giving us something to look forward to in the middle of our busiest schedules: little pockets of joy made possible by our very own Pherald, Student Council, STAPH, ALPHA, SIBOL, PHAC, and APHS.

From street food favorites to sweet Valentine treats, our home organizations gave us one reason to smile for each day.

POV: You used to be the one submitting the paperwork, and now you’re the one making the system work. 🖋️🎞️

We all know Ate Fei as the former CPHSC Chairperson, but life after the "BSPH grind" looks a little different than you’d expect. Now working under the Office of the Dean, 𝗞𝗿𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗙𝗲𝗶 𝗣𝗮𝘁𝗮𝘂𝗲𝗴 is seeing the complex reality of public health governance firsthand.

She’s trading lab coats for leadership training and student campaigns for systemic change. Her message to the community? Stop looking at CPH as a stepping stone and start seeing it as a task to prolong life and prevent the preventable. Because at the end of the day, it’s not about "what I will do," but "what we will do."

𝗦𝗽𝗲𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗘𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀: 𝗭𝗲𝗿𝗼 𝗯𝗶𝗱𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗣𝗥𝗢 𝘀𝗲𝗮𝘁

Hitting a dead end, all four nominees for the Public Relations Officer (PRO) position declined to run as the filing period of the Special Elections 2025-2026 closed last Thursday, February 12.

Under Article V, Section 3 of the CPH Constitution, the incumbent officers of the College of Public Health Student Council (CPHSC) are mandated to directly appoint a qualified member of the student body to the unfilled position following a failed special election.

Deliberations are underway between the College Electoral Board (CEB) and CPHSC to determine whether the vacant PRO seat will be filled by appointment or declared vacant for SY 2025–2026.

Think being a professor is just about giving lectures? Think again! 📚 𝗗𝗿. 𝗣𝗮𝘂𝗹 𝗠𝗶𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗲𝗹 𝗛𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗲𝘇 gives us a peek into the life of a CPH faculty member, where teaching is just 20% of the work, and the rest is dedicated to service, leadership, and technical guidance.

But even with a schedule that full, he reminds us of the importance of recharging the cup through movies and time with loved ones. 🏸🎬

Walking from Pedro Gil to Lara Hall, you’ll likely catch a glimpse of someone balancing a heavy bag, a coffee in hand, and a phone buzzing with endless SC group chats. This edition of Humans of Lara features 𝗔𝗹𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗿 𝗤𝘂𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗮, our CPH Representative to the USC.

Through a quick "20 Questions" walk-and-talk, The Public Herald caught up with the person behind the position. For Alistair, leadership isn’t just about formal meetings; it’s about the "character development" of tough subjects and being a relatable bridge for the student body. Whether he’s dodging burnout with a favorite song or looking for a quiet spot to recharge, he remains a grounded voice for the college.

𝗖𝗣𝗛-𝗖𝗘𝗕 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗱𝘂𝗰𝘁𝘀 𝗦𝗽𝗲𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗘𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗣𝗥𝗢 𝘃𝗮𝗰𝗮𝗻𝗰𝘆

In accordance with the CPH constitution, the CPH College Electoral Board (CEB) announced the conduct of the CPHSC Special Elections for A.Y. 2025–2026 and released the calendar of activities on February 4, 2026, to fill the Public Relations Officer (PRO) post left vacant in the recently concluded General Elections.

Nominations are now open and will run until February 11, with the official list of candidates for release on February 13. Campaigns will last from February 16 to 18, centered in an online Miting de Avance (MDA) on February 17.

Voting will be conducted on February 20-22, followed by the proclamation of elected candidates on February 27.
