The University of the Philippines College of Pharmacy - College Electoral Board held its annual Miting de Avance for the 2026 UPPhA SC General Elections via Zoom last July 19.
Unlike last year where the candidates for the 46th UPM USC were also featured, this yearโs event solely highlighted the 2026 UPPhA SC Candidates as the UP Manila University Electoral Board has released General Resolution 2026-003 which formally proclaimed the duly elected officers of the 47th University Student Council last July 9.
This yearโs MDA focused on a wide array of topics which included college, university, national and international issues with an emphasis on the ongoing impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte and the US-led Pax Silica initiative in New Clark City.
47th UPM USC Chairperson Chryztiane Jyca Santos in her opening remarks noted the importance of student-leaders that not only serves their college constituents but also their fellow citizens outside the university.
Santos also encouraged the student body attending the event to thoroughly investigate those who are running and have the initiative to act on the need for student leaders in the university in future elections to further strengthen the council. Santos ended her speech by challenging the candidates of both political parties to also serve those in need in the pharmacy, hospital, and barangay settings.
In their introduction and general statement of plans of action, the 2Y BSP BR candidate Lawrence Harry Villaluz and 2Y BSPS BR candidate Jeleena Borgoรฑa pledges to build an efficient database tracking system and batch website, establish transparent fund-tracking systems, provide anonymous grievance channels, and organize batch socials including buddy programs and sem-ender events. 3Y BSP BR candidate Ross Shylla Eulin promises a centralized deadline and activity tracker, semestral financial disclosures, accessible messaging channels, post-project debriefings with grievance forms, and expanded external partnerships. 4Y BSPS BR candidate Karen Grace Farparan proposed a streamlined internship process, dedicated assistant batch reps for both regular and irregular students, stronger committee structures, and transparent financial reporting. College Representative to the USC candidate Miguel Buzon vows to champion student welfare through on-ground educational discussions on national issues including STOP AND REVIEW RSA, push for conducive learning environments, and continuation of the UPCP Kapihan. Secretary for Finance candidate Krisha Simangan would prioritize on financial transparency and resource accountability through the continuation of the UPPhA live ledger, semestral reports, centralizing funding/IGP requests into a single digital platform, tracking missing college glassware, building a student marketplace initiative, and Pharmalengke. Secretary for External Affairs candidate Jonathan Samson pledges earlier ex*****on of Pharmalympics, expanded participation in IPSF/FJCPPhA workshops and competitions, broader community outreach via hosting blood donation drives. Secretary for Internal Affairs candidate Hana Bungabong promises a smoother enrollment process, the continuation and improvement of staple college events such as First Dose and Bulagaan, as well as building sustainable internal systems that drive meaningful community impact. Lastly, incumbent UPPhA Student Council President Nikki Rivera is seeking re-election on a platform centered on active, compassionate service, financial transparency, updated student agendas, and community-building initiatives in building a โbraver, better, and bolderโ UPCP student body. The aforementioned candidates are running under the CHANGE banner.
Moreover, the SIGAW UP Candidates primarily revolved around the message of โRise and Resistโ in furthering projects that are inclusive, progressive, and student-centered. Under the SIGAW UP banner 3Y BSP BR candidate Chagnon Saranilla pledges to restructure committee workloads to prevent student burnout, maintain shared internal and external calendars for clear schedule awareness, and boost batch funds through organized collections and income-generating projects (IGPs). 5Y BSPS BR Candidate William Layese vows to to ease student burn-out by mitigating heavy internship burdens and associated costs, while equipping the batch with streamlined lab material procurement and active fundraising projects.
This yearโs election cycle features vacancies for the positions of batch representatives for BSPS 2024 and BSP 2022 with BSP 2024 having two candidates for batch representatives from opposing political parties.
