TUP Gender and Development (GAD), in collaboration with YOUth EMPOWERing Gender and Development (YEGAD), held an orientation forum entitled โUnderstanding Laws Protecting Women and Childrenโ at the TUP Admin Building's Audio Visual Room (AVR) on December 10 as part of the 18 Day Campaign to End Violence Against Women.
Ms. Adelfa R. De Guzman, the forumโs main resource speaker, is the Program Director for Sagip ng Muntinlupa: a 24-hour crisis center dedicated to helping abused women and children. Her session centered around spreading awareness about the different types of abuse committed against women and children, the different laws that safeguard their rights, and how they can access help and protection against their abusers.
She ended her talk by urging for development inside the university through the implementation of a social behavior change campaign, promoting strength through solidarity with a powerful message: โMay boses ang kababaihan kung sila ay magsasama sama.โ
A short Q&A was conducted after, encouraging meaningful discussion about the topic. One standout question asked whether other help centers like Sagip ng Muntinlupa, which focuses on helping victims of violence against women and children, exist. Ms. Guzman answered with while they do exist, they're not as accessible. She expressed hope that more centers like Sagip ng Muntinlupa would be implemented all across the country so that help can be readily available for those that need it.
