Making a notable return, the University of the East (UE) Lex Societas Orientis (LexSo) ranked first among the Manila campus’ Top 10 Outstanding Recognized Student Organizations (RSOs) during the awarding ceremony held at the SFC Briefing Room on May 29.

Despite being unranked last year, the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS)-based organization rose to the top, joining the ranks of other prominent groups recognized among UE Manila’s outstanding RSOs.

In an exclusive interview with the DAWN, LexSo President Charles Fernando credited their shared belief in a clear vision and a strong system for propelling them to the top spot.

“At the end of the day, being the top organization was once just a dream; it became possible because that dream was shared by people who were willing to work for it,” the president shared.

The organization’s vision of fostering a tight-knit community remains evident, as Fernando hopes future LexSo leaders will be reminded that the organization exists for its members.

“I hope LexSo continues to be a place where Legal Management students feel that they belong—a place where they can grow academically, develop as leaders, serve others, and enjoy their college life at the same time,” he added.

Varying from advocacy groups, humanitarian bodies, interest-based and faith-centered communities, to program-focused organizations, the complete list of the campus’ Top 10 Outstanding RSOs is as follows:

Rank 1: Lex Societas Orientis
Rank 2: Filipino-Chinese Dental Students' Association
Rank 3: Junior Philippine Institute of Accountants
Rank 4: Dental Health Team
Rank 5: Philippine Dental Students Association
Rank 6: Achievers’ Council for Excellence
Rank 7: Philippine Association of Nutrition - Sigma Chi, and Society of Computer Engineering Students
Rank 8: Association of Broadcasting Students
Rank 9: UE Psychology Society
Rank 10: Entertainment and Multimedia Computing Students Society, and Computer Students Society

In coordination with the Student Affairs Office (SAO), the awarding ceremony recognized public-spirited students, campus RSOs, and retiring faculty members through certificates of appreciation.

ALL HAIL THE NEW PRINCE 🤴🏹

Another milestone has been added to the Warriors’ growing legacy as Gabriel Godoy, a humanities and social science (HUMSS) student from the University of the East (UE)-Manila, was crowned Mr. Teen World Philippines on May 2 at the Pilar Hidalgo-Lim Girl Scouts Headquarters.

Representing the Filipino community of Australia, Godoy competed against 15 other candidates and advanced to the finals after excelling in the preliminary competition and other scored segments.

During the coronation night, Godoy stood out in various segments, including the national costume competition, formal wear segment, and the high-stakes question-and-answer portion, where he was asked to describe the youth of today.

“We have become very informed and resilient against societal issues and injustice. We do not fear to speak our minds and stand for the truth,” he stated in his winning answer.

The newly crowned titleholder also emphasized that empowering the youth is vital in collectively standing against misinformation and breaking away from the norms and expectations imposed by previous generations.

When asked for his advocacy, he also shared his eagerness to help combat misinformation, which he described as "timely" in the Philippines today.

In an exclusive interview with the DAWN, Godoy shared what big trick he picked up as a Warrior that helped him during the competition.

"The one key lesson I learned is confidence—it comes from preparation and determination. My experience in UE taught me to always believe in myself while facing challenges, staying humble, and being respectful," the pageant prince said.

Prior to winning the national title, the HUMSS student was crowned Mr. Basic Education Manila and finished as fourth runner-up in Mr. and Ms. UE 2025.

Godoy is set to represent the Philippines at the international Mr. Teen World competition, where young men between the ages of 15 and 20 from different nations will be judged based on charismatic appeal, leadership abilities, personal advocacies, and talent.

FOURTH-IFIED BY SETBACKS 🛡 🏆

Dr. Elen Kiana Morados, an alumna from the University of the East (UE) College of Dentistry (CDent), had an “imperfect journey” before ranking fourth in the May 2026 Dentist Licensure Examination (DLE).

In an exclusive interview with the DAWN, Morados shared that her path to the top was far from the flawless trajectory many expect from a topnotcher.

“I got distracted a lot—playing mobile games and watching anime and K-dramas even while reviewing,” she confessed, noting that she only achieved full focus in the final two weeks of her preparation.

Apart from her struggles with focus, the newly licensed dentist opened up about her extended stay in college and the self-doubt she continues to battle with.

“I still struggle with self-doubt myself, but my confidence comes not from trusting in my own abilities alone, but from trusting in a powerful and faithful God who always has my back,” Morados expressed.

Beyond these hurdles, the topnotcher affirmed that the desire to secure her own future and give back to the people around her served as her primary inspiration for the DLE.

“I have so much I want to do for both myself and the people around me, and I wanted to pursue those dreams through my own hard work instead of depending on my parents financially,” she explained.

Drawing from her own delays and setbacks, Morados reminded students that the path to a license is a process of growth rather than a race for perfection.

“To students, always keep in mind that you are there to learn; you are not expected to know or master everything right away,” she advised.

“If failures come your way, try to see them as God protecting you from something you are not yet ready to handle. There is a reason God planted that dream in your heart, and there are reasons why He sometimes makes you wait,” the topnotcher added.

Ultimately, Morados’ "imperfect journey" served as the foundation for a success that she hopes will empower others to be kinder to themselves.

“I think it would be nice to show the imperfections in my journey because it’s the truth, and it would resonate with people who need to hear it, especially those who are too hard on themselves, as I once was,” she concluded.

UE CDent emerged as the number one top-performing school after clinching a 100% passing rate in the recently concluded DLE, with Morados leading the pack of 56 new Warrior dentists.

KHYried THE WARRIOR FIGHT 💣❤️‍🔥

After four seasons representing the Red-and-White, UE Women’s Volleyball Team (UEWVT) standout Khy Cepada bids farewell as she officially enters the 2026 Premier Volleyball League (PVL) Rookie Draft.

Cepada poured her heart out in an Instagram post yesterday, May 26, as she officially closed her collegiate chapter with UE.

“Lord knows how hard I tried, every sweat, blood, and tear was poured into this journey, even on the days when giving up felt easier than continuing.

“Through every season, I continued to show up, believe, and fight up until the very end,” she wrote.

Cepada began her stint in UAAP Season 85 and has since emerged as one of the team’s key leaders on the court.

“I will always be grateful to the people who stood by me throughout this journey. For the support, trust, and memories we shared along the way. Every experience taught me lessons that I will carry with me beyond the game,” she concluded.

Despite UEWVT's winless campaign in UAAP Season 88, the 5’4” hitter remained one of UE’s bright spots, ranking seventh in Statistical Points (SPS) with an average of 64.773 across 44 sets played.

Alongside Cepada, former UEWVT Team Captain Kaycee Balingit and Setter Tin Ecalla were also included in the PVL Rookie Draft.

The draft is set to commence on June 3 at Novotel Manila Araneta City.

IN PHOTOS | Media, advocates convene for cervical cancer forum

In commemoration of Cervical Cancer Awareness Month, health advocates and medical experts gathered for the media forum “Together for Health: Towards a Cervical Cancer-Free Philippines” on May 26, at the Makati Shangri-La, Manila.

Moderated by veteran broadcast journalist Pinky Webb, the event focused on efforts to eliminate cervical cancer that remains one of the leading causes of death among Filipino women.

The program opened with keynote messages highlighting the burden of cervical cancer, a disease primarily caused by Human Papillomavirus (HPV).

Experts presented data showing that cervical cancer is the second most common cancer among Filipinas, causing an estimated 12 deaths daily.

Keynote speakers also emphasized that early detection through modern HPV testing can significantly improve survival rates.

During his talk, Pharmaceutical and Healthcare Association of the Philippines (PHAP) Executive Director Teodoro Padilla underscored the need to bridge the gap between medical innovation and patient access.

“No woman should die from a preventable disease simply because information, vaccines, or healthcare services failed to reach her in time,” he stated.

A panel discussion followed, featuring Mayor Chrislynn Abadilla of Banna, Ilocos Norte, whose municipality became the first in the Philippines to achieve a 91% HPV vaccination rate among girls aged 9 to 14.

The achievement surpassed the World Health Organization’s (WHO) “90-70-90” target, which aims to reach 90% vaccination, 70% screening, and 90% treatment coverage for cervical cancer by 2030.

Another panel discussion centered on preventive healthcare among adolescents, stressing the importance of early immunization in protecting future generations of women.

The event concluded with a symbolic gong-striking ceremony representing unity in the fight against cervical cancer, followed by a performance from the University of the Philippines Kontemporaryong Gamelan Pilipino (UP Kontra-GaPi).

Organized by premier research-intensive biopharmaceutical company Merck & Co., Inc. (MSD) in the Philippines, participants included representatives from PHAP, the Philippine Obstetrical and Gynecological Society (POGS), the Philippine Commission on Women, and the Cancer Warriors Foundation.

WATCH | Dr. Ana Victoria Dy Echo, Chair of the Philippine Obstetrical and Gynecological Society (POGS) Committee on Women’s Cancer, advises women not to be afraid when it comes to their reproductive health.

“I think we just need to realize—na tanggalin na natin ‘yung takot natin, or the taboo, or the feeling of stigma ‘pag na-diagnose ng cervical cancer.

“Let’s just emphasize the fact that it is something that is preventable and treatable. So, huwag silang matatakot,” she stated in an exclusive interview with the DAWN.

The gynecologist also expressed her concern regarding the high amount of cervical cancer cases in the Philippines.

“Of course, nakakalungkot, ‘di ba? Kasi, biruin mo, in other countries like the United States, the incidence of cervical cancer is already very low,” she explained.

Despite these challenges, Dy Echo remains hopeful that the country will improve its capacity to combat the disease.

“I hope that the Philippines will be on its way to improving our capacity to really prevent cervical cancer through proper vaccination and screening,” she concluded.

Dy Echo was one of the keynote speakers at the “Together for Health: Towards a Cervical Cancer-Free Philippines” forum, held today, May 26, at the Makati Shangri-La Hotel.
