This is Kazakhstan 🇰🇿

No visa needed for Philippine passport holders.

It’s my second time here, and the views are even better this time. The lakes & landscapes are vibrant and not frozen, unlike my first visit in March-esrly April.

Ideal months are May to June.

Sulit? Yes!

Hey, I’m Mico—co-founder and President of ODD Travel 🫶💚

Yes, ODD Travel is still very young. It’s only been almost five months since we kicked off our very first trip last January.

But in just a few months, we’ve seen something special unfold: strangers turning into friends, dream destinations becoming unforgettable memories, and that spark in ODD traveler’s eyes the moment they realize, “I’m living the story I used to only imagine.”

And guess what? We’re just getting started.

This year is all about building. We’re forming partnerships, exploring off-the-beaten-path places, and slowly but surely putting ODD on the map. Not just in destinations, but in hearts.

We’re curating more unique expeditions soon. Some might be loud and colorful, others slow and soul-stirring. But all of them will have that signature twist: ODD!

In the next few years, we’re not just planning to grow. We’re preparing to bloom.

And I thank God for this calling and for the new people in my life.

To those who’ve joined us, thank you for believing in the early days. And to those who haven’t yet…maybe you’re the next story waiting to be written. 💚

Flying to to Delhi, India 🇮🇳

Currently posting from 30,000 feet. Singapore Airlines’ WiFi is, as always, impressively reliable.

Dinner tonight was the famous Lobster Thermidor from SQ’s Book the Cook, where you can preorder and get a restaurant-style meal onboard. Honestly, it was meh.

This is flight 2 of 7 for this trip.

Our ODD Travel Central Asia Expedition kicks off in just a few days. 💚

I’m flying from Manila to Central Asia for an epic ODD Travel expedition 🇰🇿🇰🇬🇹🇯🇺🇿🇹🇲

I’ll be having some overnight stops along the way before our official trip. Now, I’m flying to Singapore. 🇸🇬

This is my first time this 2025 flying out of NAIA T3!

All my previous trips this year were via NAIA T1, and today, surprisingly, I had the smoothest airport procedure so far. It took just about 12 minutes from check-in to immigration to security check. I also noticed that all the airport staff were efficient today. I think there’s been an improvement.

Currently at SilverKris—one of the best lounges in NAIA T3, right next to Cathay Lounge which is just as good. But by global standards, our lounges are still pretty mid.

I’ll try to post in real time for this trip, not just on IG Story. 💚 Excited.

Thank God my Philippine passport allows visa-free entry to Kazakhstan. 🇰🇿

If you’re planning 2–3 trips around Southeast Asia this year, maybe save those for later and try Kazakhstan first.

You’ll probably spend about the same, but the experience is very different (in a good way). Worth it.

Initial impressions:
• People are nice, but not as warm or friendly as in Uzbekistan or Kyrgyzstan. Still, I feel safe. I’ve walked around during the day and even in the evening, & I never felt uncomfortable or watched.

• The food is okay. Central Asian food is usually meat-heavy. It’s not bad, but I get tired of it easily.

• If you come between November and mid-April, it’s really cold & many lakes are still frozen. Best months to visit: May to June or September to October.

• You won’t go broke here, but it’s also not the cheapest place in Central Asia. Accommodations can be relatively pricey. For goods and souvenirs, you still need to haggle. Private tours can get expensive too. Overall, I find Uzbekistan & Kyrgyzstan cheaper in comparison.

• I used my GCash card to withdraw cash with no fee. Even when there are fees, they’re minimal, less than $1 USD.

I’ll be sharing more in the coming days.

Also, for us at ODD Travel , this is exactly what we look for—beautiful places that aren’t on everyone’s bucket list YET. I’ll be back, not just for me, but to create a better itinerary for our future co-travelers.

Can’t wait.

This is now my FAVORITE part of Vietnam. 🇻🇳

Welcome to the northernmost region of Vietnam (and no, it’s not Sapa).

I’ve traveled from the northernmost to the southernmost parts of Vietnam—Sapa, Da Nang, Hoi An, My Tho—but this region might just be the most beautiful place I’ve ever seen in the country.

Is it cold? Yes. At night, temperatures drop to a chilly 9-10°C, but midday is much more bearable.

How to Get There?
Some travelers rent motorbikes with a driver from Hanoi, but it can be risky, especially in bad weather.

It is 6-7 hours from Hanoi.

This trip, however, is an expedition booked from ODD Travel . Everything had already been taken care of — private bus for our group, all meals, all activities, accommodations, and entrance fees. Yup, all-inclusive! It even felt premium, even in the mountains.
