Note: “Recommended” does not mean that those places are the only counted as official entries. They are simply suggested locations. Wherever you visit within that province is acceptable, as long as the place has historical significance, scenic views, or tourism value.
For the final assessment, only one location per province is required as the minimum. You may choose any eligible location within the province, even if it is not one of the recommended places.
PROJECT82 OFFICIAL GUIDELINES
Project82 is a travel challenge designed to encourage meaningful exploration and appreciation of all 82 provinces of the Philippines, while promoting the country’s natural beauty, history, culture, heritage, and local destinations.
Participants are expected to visit and document recognized destinations rather than simply pass through a province. The challenge is intended to be a personal journey of discovery, and there is no prescribed timeline for completion.
1. Proof of Visit: Each participant must provide at least one (1) photo or video from every province, featuring a recognized:
● Tourist attraction
● Natural attraction
● Historical landmark
● Cultural site
● Museum
● Park
● Heritage site
● Old church
● Other prominent or significant destination
The participant must be clearly and visibly present in the submitted photo or video. Even if you are included in the picture, you must face the camera clearly. Your face must be visible as clear evidence that you personally visited the location.
The Project82 verification team may request additional evidence when necessary to establish the authenticity of a visit. Supporting evidence may include (Optional):
● Plane tickets or boarding passes
● Bus, van, train, or other transportation tickets
● Ferry or boat tickets
● Travel receipts
● Accommodation receipts, when applicable
● Additional photographs or videos taken at the destination
● Other reasonable evidence showing that the participant actually visited the location
The team reserves the right to request additional proof when the submitted documentation is insufficient or questionable.
Note: The place itself must be the basis for the visit, not a person or an individual activity. A ruined or abandoned city/site, such as the areas of Marawi City affected by the destruction, is not counted as a qualifying tourist destination. Likewise, getting a tattoo from Apo Whang-Od is not considered a qualifying destination, since the activity is centered on a person rather than the place itself.
2. Overnight Stay Is Not Required: A province may be counted as completed as long as the participant can provide valid and verifiable proof that they personally visited a recognized destination within that province.
3. No Required Completion Timeline or Age Requirement: Participants may complete Project82 at their own pace. Some travelers may complete the challenge within a few months or years, while others may take many years or even decades. There is no single correct pace for completing Project82.
Participants are expected to respect the individual travel style, circumstances, and journey of others. There is also no minimum or maximum age requirement. Minors and elderly participants may participate, provided that appropriate adult supervision or accompaniment is observed when necessary.
4. Participant Must Be Visible in the Evidence: A group photograph may be accepted as supporting evidence, but a group photo alone will not normally be considered sufficient proof of an individual’s visit. Additional photographs may be requested.
For purposes of a shared travel photo, the only automatically recognized duo arrangement is for:
● Married couples
● Husband and wife
● Common-law partners
For other group or companion arrangements, individual proof may still be required.
5. Independent Cities Geographically Located Within a Province: Independent or highly urbanized cities that are geographically located within the boundaries of a province may be accepted as a valid visit point for that province.
Examples include:
* Baguio City — Benguet
* Olongapo City — Zambales
* Bacolod City — Negros Occidental
* Tacloban City — Leyte
* Zamboanga City — Zamboanga del Sur
* Iligan City — Lanao del Norte
* Cagayan de Oro City — Misamis Oriental
* Davao City — Davao del Sur
* General Santos City — South Cotabato
* Butuan City — Agusan del Norte
Accordingly, a participant who visits a recognized destination within one of these cities may receive credit for the corresponding province, provided that the destination and visit meet the other Project82 requirements.
6. Contacting the Pinoy History Team: Participants are responsible for contacting the Pinoy History Team regarding their Project82 completion. Inclusion in an official finisher list, ranking, or dedicated completion post is optional and is not a mandatory requirement for completing the personal challenge.
7. Submission Methods: Project82 documentation may be submitted through:
● Email
● Facebook Messenger (Admin 4)
Participants should ensure that their submitted materials are clear, properly organized, and sufficiently documented for verification.
8. Proper Labeling and Organization: All submitted photographs and videos must be properly labeled with the name of the province and destination. Submissions should be organized in alphabetical order by province to facilitate verification and record-keeping.
9. Travel Log or Online Documentation: Participants may also submit a compiled travel log through an application platform, digital portfolio, or publicly accessible website link. The travel log must clearly document the participant’s journey and identify the destinations visited in each province.
10. National Capital Region (NCR): In addition to the 82 provinces, each participant is required to visit at least one (1) prominent destination within the National Capital Region (NCR).
This brings the total number of required destinations to 83. However, because the NCR is not a province, the challenge remains officially known as Project82.
11. Eligibility for Official Finisher Features: Only recent finishers may be considered for an official completion feature on the Pinoy History page. To qualify for a completion feature, the participant must submit their requirements within fifteen (15) days from their exact completion date.
Late submissions may still be recorded as a completed personal journey, but they may no longer qualify for a recent-finisher feature.
12. Provincial Capitols: Provincial capitols are primarily government administrative offices and are not automatically considered tourist destinations. However, the following are government centers are recognized as exceptions for Project82 destination purposes:
Examples include:
1. Sultan Kudarat Provincial Capitol
2. Sulu Provincial Capitol
3. New Provincial Capitol, Trece Martires, Cavite
4. Bacolod Government Center
5. Manila City Hall
13. Transit Points and Transportation Facilities: The following do not qualify as destinations by themselves:
● Airports
● Seaports
● Ferry terminals
● Train stations
● Highways
● Expressways
● Major roads
● Welcome arches or entrance markers
Participants must actually enter and visit a recognized destination within the province. Simply passing through a province, making a transportation stopover, or taking a photograph at a welcome arch is not sufficient to complete the province requirement.
14. “I ❤️ [Place]” Signs and Similar Photo Markers will not, by itself, be considered sufficient proof of visiting a recognized destination. Such signs may be accepted when accompanied by a significant:
● Tourist attraction
● Scenic view
● Cultural site
● Historical landmark
● Natural attraction
● Notable point of interest
Examples of acceptable use include “I Love Taal” in Taal, Batangas and “I Love Batanes” in Basco, provided that the surrounding location demonstrates an actual visit to a significant destination.
15. Churches and Religious Heritage Sites: Churches may qualify as Project82 destinations provided that the church is more than 100 years old and is recognized as a significant historical, cultural, architectural, or heritage site. Modern churches that do not meet the historical-age requirement will not automatically qualify.
Grottos may still be counted if the location where they are situated has a documented or recognized historical past. The historical significance does not have to come exclusively from the grotto itself.
16. Private and public resorts may be counted, provided that the resort is located near a beach, waterfront, or other scenic natural area, or offers a venue where visitors can view a significant historical site, landmark, tourist attraction, or other notable destination.
The resort does not necessarily have to be directly on the beach. What matters is that it provides meaningful access to, or a scenic view of, a recognized tourist, historical, cultural, or natural attraction.
17. Youngest Finisher and Fastest Finisher Rankings: To ensure fair and meaningful comparisons, certain Project82 rankings will be divided into separate categories.
● Youngest Finisher: The youngest-finisher ranking will be divided into:
1. Youngest Finisher — Accompanied Category
Participants who completed the journey while accompanied by parents, relatives, or other responsible adults.
2. Youngest Finisher — Independent Category
Participants who were able to travel independently without parental or relative accompaniment, subject to applicable age and travel requirements.
● Fastest Finisher: The fastest-finisher ranking will also be divided into:
1. Fastest Finisher — Regular Travel Category
Participants who completed Project82 using ordinary modes of transportation and normal travel arrangements.
2. Fastest Finisher — Motorcycle Category
Participants who completed the challenge primarily through motorcycle travel.
The purpose of these separate categories is to provide a fairer comparison of completion times, recognizing that different modes of transportation can significantly affect travel speed and accessibility.
18. Traditional Filipino Attire Requirement: Each finisher is required to submit at least one photograph wearing traditional Filipino attire.
Acceptable attire may include:
● Barong Tagalog
● Filipiniana
● Traditional attire representing the participant’s place of origin
● Traditional attire representing the participant’s cultural or ethnic heritage
This photograph will form part of the participant’s official Project82 journey feature, when applicable.
THE SPIRIT OF PROJECT82: Project82 is designed to encourage meaningful exploration of the Philippines. Simply arriving at, transiting through, or passing by a province does not constitute completion. The objective is not merely to collect province names but to experience, discover, and document the places that make each province unique. Project82 is a journey of discovery, not simply a checklist of locations.
