ALERT | The official student publication of the University of Santo Tomas-Senior High School (UST-SHS), La Stampa, was barred from posting publication material commemorating National Press Freedom Day after advisers rejected a press freedom-themed cartoon on August 30, the very day dedicated to honoring press freedom.

In response, the College Editors Guild of the Philippines (CEGP) released a statement condemning the incident, calling it a “blatant act of censorship” that strips student journalists of their editorial independence. CEGP demanded an immediate end to administrative and adviser interference in campus publications.

The case of La Stampa follows a similar controversy last year, when TomasinoWeb, UST’s digital media organization, faced censorship after the UST Office of Student Affairs (OSA) took down a photo release which supposedly earned “public ridicule” from students of the College of Information and Computing Sciences (CICS).

NGAYON | Dinagsa ng daan-daang mga Iskolar ng Bayan bitbit ang mga balatengga at panawagan sa pagsisimula ng “First Day Fight” sa PUP ngayong araw, ika-2 ng Setyembre, para igiit ang hinaing ng mga mag-aaral sa pagbubukas ng bagong taong panuruan.

Tampok ang panawagang, "Maligayang Pagdating Bagong Iskolar ng Bayan! Pag-aralan ang Lipunan, Paglingkuran ang Sambayanan," kung saan sama-samang inirehistro ng mga mag-aaral ang mas mataas na badyet sa pamantasan, sapat na espasyo at suporta para sa mga mag-aaral, pagtatanggol sa malayang pamamahayag, at marami pang iba.

Susundan naman ito ng isang programa na dadaluhan ng iba’t ibang tagapagsalita mula sa mga organisasyon at konseho ng PUP.

Mag-aalay din ng pagtatanghal ang mga artista ng bayan tulad ng Sinagbayan, Himno at Sining, The Tribu, Sining Lila, Tampisaw Performance Collective, at Panday Sining PUP.

TINGNAN | Dinaragsa ng dumaraming estudyante ang iba't-ibang mga organization booth sa PUP Lagoon ngayong pagsalubong ng First Day Fight.

Makikita sa mga booth ang kani-kanilang mga produkto, membership sign-ups, mga panawagan, at pagtatanghal.

Sa ilang sandali na lamang ay nalalapit nang ikasa ang mobilisasyon ng komunidad ng PUP.

Freshmen students holding placards of their respective sections line the catwalk to welcome their fellow clasmates.

At the lagoon, masses of students are visiting several booths, set up by various mass organizations.

ADVISORY | Following the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) announcement, the Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP) suspended work and classes at all levels today, September 1 (Monday), across its campuses in Metro Manila, Bulacan, Cavite, Pampanga, Quezon, Laguna, and Camarines Sur due to inclement weather conditions.

In light of this, the highly anticipated First Day Fight (FDF) activities in PUP will also not push through today. Students are advised to wait for further announcements from Gabay Sinta’s official page regarding the rescheduled date of FDF.

Kumusta, mga Iskolar ng Bayan?

Ngayong magsisimula na ang panibagong taong panuruan, hindi lamang dapat nakukulong ang mga Iskolar ng Bayan sa akademikong pag-aaral, lumabas tayo at matuto sa kapwa-estudyante at lipunan!

Iniimbitahan ng mga kampus pahayagan ng PUP ang lahat ng mga Iskolar ng Bayan na makipag-aralan ukol sa uri ng pamamahayag na nakasandig sa interes ng masa! Halina at matutong magsulat ng balita kasama kami! Sama-sama nating kilalanin natin ang mga pahayagan pangmag-aaral at isulong ang ating panawagan.

Ngayong paparating na First Day Fight, malakas ang panawagan nating ipasa ang Campus Press Freedom Bill na layuning magbigay proteksyon sa mga kampus mamamahayag laban sa mga banta sa malayang pamamahayag, tulad ng censorship, red-tagging, witholding of funds, at iba pang campus press freedom violations.

Bitbit ang panawagang "Ipaglaban ang malaya at mapagpalayang pamamahayag! Ipasa ang Campus Press Freedom Bill," nagsagawa ng kilos protesta ang ang mga lokal na pangkampus na publikasyon, Kolehiyo ng Komunikasyon, at mga progresibong organisasyon kahapon, Agosto 30, sa tarangkahan ng pamantasan.

Sa paggunita ng Pambansang Araw ng Malayang Pamamahayag, basahin ang panawagan ng ating mga lider-estudyante at kampus mamamahayag sa pagsulong ng tunay na kalayaan ng pamamahayag.

Labintatlong taon matapos maisabatas ang RA 10353 o Anti-Enforced or Involuntary Disappearance Act of 2012, wala pa ni isa ang nahatulan sa krimen kahit na mayroong mahigit isang libong kaso ng Desaparecidos mula diktadurya ni Marcos Sr. hanggang sa rehimen ni Marcos Jr.

Hanggang ngayon, patuloy ang pangangalampag na ilitaw ang lahat ng mamamayang winala at nawawala. Patuloy din ang paghahanap at pakikipaglaban ng mga pamilyang nawalan. JUST IN | Polytechnic University of the Philippines will conduct an official investigation on the alleged unauthorized publication of research and exploitation of student theses.

"This complaint strikes at the heart of our academic values, and PUP is responding eith immediate and decisive action", PUP says on their official statement.

Related concerns are encouraged to be reported to the University Legal Counsel Office at [email protected].

However, several members of PUP online community called for more investigation in the journal claiming that this is not the first and only incident.
