In the world of Podcasts, Foaming At The Mouth is as fringe as it gets. Especially today, when there is seemingly an endless array to choose from. From experts espousing advice in every field imaginable, to scary ones, to funny ones, sports ones, and since everyone today has been emboldened to express their opinions, podcast with “hot takes” are a plenty. I on the other hand am no expert in anything. Hell, half the time I’m probably just rambling incoherently. But times were different I began. I don’t think there were any local podcasts yet, or maybe just a handful of us.
I started out in 2013 with a laptop, no preconceived ideas, no script and no microphone. I knew however I wanted to talk about music and of course “other” stuff. I found mixcloud as platform since they didn’t block any of the music I played and allowed me to upload my voice. To my surprise there weren’t any real “talk shows”on mixcloud. It was really a space for DJs to showcase mixes. I honestly didn’t think anyone would listen, except maybe a few of my friends. I did for my own sanity at the time and I guess I just missed doing “Not Radio” with Maps and it’s bastardized little cousin, “Let’s Fun” with Quark. I remember Erwin Romulo, Quark, Lou, Camille at Bandwagon, Raims and the late Luis Katigbak (who also wrote about us 1st) being early champions of the show. Erwin in particular telling me “don’t edit yourself” the rambling and unhinged nature is what makes it fun. Haha
Fast forward to 2024 and I still do the show exactly the same way. Except now I have a microphone! (Thanks Love!) I didn’t even realize I’ve been doing it for over a decade. But when Mel and the good folks at Anima got me to be part of their roster of Spotify, I knew I wanted to try something slightly different. I still play, share and talk about music. I still tell stories that are hopefully entertaining and funny, but also having a lot more heart. Maybe, just maybe a tad bit inspiring as well. I know the show is not for all, but Im very proud of it. Especially episodes like “Standing in the Way or Control: Music & Politics”, Sound & Vision, “Oras-Oras”: 70s Pinoy Funk, Grooves & Oddities and all the Filipino music eps too.
Our newest Cebu episode is another one I’m proud of. Being able to showcase and talk about an independent music scene that’s geographically my own, but of course in a large sense, I am part of too. 🙂
Thank you again to everyone who’s been listening and supported the show. You guys are awesome!
PS: Thinking of covering as many cities as I can in future. I don’t just know how yet, but I’ll figure it out. 🙂
